    Default Another diplomacy question

    Welcome,

at the beginning-soorry for my english:p.

I would like to know if console commands diplomacy_mission and diplomatic_stance works? And if so, how to use first one? Second thing is about diplomats: it looks like AI controlled factions "make politics" by their emissaries (there's a lot of them on the campaign map). I wonder if i would send assasins to kill them, will this prevent AI controlled factions from making for example peace threaties or alliances against me ? I also would like to know exactly how it is with proposal/demand:"attack faction"-it concerns only single battle? every next battle? next turn battle only? or it means help in whole war?
Last thing: giving small amount of mnai makes other factions more frienldy to me, but it's same when i make single payment every turn or give regular tribute? Is it equal?

    Thx for help.

EDIT: I found in web information about some some kind of diplomacy manual;it contains "mathematic" explanation of dipl mechanic: depends on what nation u are and what they are...how many influence point has ur diplomat and how many they have...what allies u have and what they have...how did u behave during game-did u keep alliances or not, did u help ur allies or not...what cultur u are and what are they....
    ...is there such thing?

EDIT: I've been talking about this http://cicero.modwest.com/writing/RTWDiplomacy.pdf guide. What do U think about it?

Spartans do not ask:how many? but:where they are?"

    Don't know. Don't know.

Assassinating the diplomats will effectively hinder their diplomatic scheming against you. It won't change the fact that the AI is after your blood anyway, so they may still choose to act accordingly even if they're not official allies.

"Attack faction" means nothing. The diplomatic and military AI have no connection whatsoever, which is easily seen in that it will happily send a diplomat to enter into an alliance with you just to attack you in it's very same turn.

I think single payments work better than regular payments, but don't take this as gospel. It won't matter all that much in the end, the AI is after your blood anyway.

Don't know about any diplomacy manual. I can easily sum up the diplomacy though: All your base are belong to us.

One thing is it may have changed alot especially for this EB 1.2 as the guide was written in 2004.

    Just an initial observation.

U are right, BUT the Diplomacy is hardcoded, there's no mod which has changed that, so...this guide should be still usefull.

Well I will give it a read when I get a moment.

I have a war on all fronts as the Romani so any form of Diplomacy to stop them attacking. I am considering the FD mod at this moment but that would make the game too easy as Hayasdan have almost wiped out the Seleucids and are the Blue death at the gates of Byzantium.

Nice fish you caught there, MDP. Read some parts of it and will try to implement them in my game as well. Liked the fact that some diplomatic moves are given names, like Caesar's move or something. Gives it more spice and urges you to go and do the same

In my recent Epeiros campaign I had a pretty good diplomatic situation. I had the Getai, Pontos and once I conquered Italy the Aedui as neighbors.

I tributed each faction 500 mnai\turn and asked them to a attack a faction they were at war with. I played until 218 BC (CTD) and only had problems with the Getai. After winning the war in about 230 BC I made them my loyal protectorate for the rest of the game. The Aedui were even more loyal since my money was the only thing saving the from the Sweboz, Arveni and the Lusitannans.

From what I can understand from this it is better to tribute (I tributed for 50 and later 100 turns) rather than do single payments and to ask the other factions to attack another faction in exchange for that tribute. And having large garrisons in the all border settlements also helps keep the peace.

I was also using FD but kept my proposals realistic.

How do you use it? It's a pdf file and I don't know how to open it.

Get Adobe Reader (used to be Acrobat Reader). It is free, and available for download.

Since that Guide is written using RTW v1.2 then I think it's a bit outdated.
Of course, most of the things there should work but I think later patches also changed diplomacy a bit.
One thing comes to my mind is that you can't bribe roman armies in v1.5 when you play roman yourself.
It could be helpful to new players but those who have played it for couple of years.. there is nothing new to learn.
