Thread: Need help with RP-ing (governments)

I'm playing as Baktria and I'm trying to make this as plausible as possible. I was wondering, when I conquer a new town, what government should I implement there after the military occupation?

I was thinking that for other Eastern Greeks (Seleukids, that means you) I could use military government for a season, then make it a full fledged satrapy (level 2) and then a decade or so later, turn it into homeland (if available).

For other expansion regions, I would make a military occupation for a season, then create a level 3, then about 5 years later make a level 2.

Should I keep my military governments longer than a season, would that be more realistic?

And for nomad towns, as well as nations far from Baktria, I would create an allied state (level 1), and then if I felt like they did not deserve their independence or if they were particularly advanced, I could turn them into a level 2.

Does this seem like the most plausible Role Playing path? Sorry if this seems frivolous.

For me, Military occupation can be built immediately.

Type IV gov can be installed next turn after getting a Military occupation as that involves a local client ruler.

But any other type of gov can only be intalled 30 years after the last type of gov was built. And they have to be built in order - Military occupation, Type IV, Type III, Type II, Type I.

So it takes over 90 years (360 turns) to go from Military occupation to Type I gov.

Making a conquered population feel like their region is part of your homeland, that they are part of your people, takes several generations. After 90 years, anyone old enough to remember their land actually being conquered by your soldiers, is dead of old age, so the bitterness towards the conquerer has faded away.

Just like, say, the Americans, French and British aren't mad at Germany over World War One anymore - the 1914-18 war was too long ago.

    Ok, that makes sense.

But how about with these eastern Seleukid cities I am conquering? I can't see the people in those cities having more loyalty to the Seleukids than they do to me, especially considering that I am much closer. Remember the reason Baktria seceded was because they had to fight of nomads in the east (Ambition played a role too, of course), and the Seleukids weren't really doing much about it because they had troubles elsewhere. I would see these eastern cities flocking to my rule because I understand them and their struggles, and am not far removed like the Seleukids in Antioch.

I would think this would mean I could go straight to a level 3, if not level 2 government with these Seleukid cities.

Now once I get to Persepolis and west of that, I could still see going to a level 3 government, as these cities are used to being satrapys under a Greek ruler.

Anything not Seleukid, however, and I will probably just give them Level 4 and then upgrade slowly.
