    Default Sab'yn and Client Rulers

I started a campaign as Sab'yn and after conquering Tamane I built a type 4 government there. However, this did not give me any ability to recruit a general, so I started an Arverni campaign just to see if they got generals from their type 4s, or if this was just a problem for the Sab'yn, and they did. Surely this is a mistake, yes?

Sounds like a mistake, yes. I imagine that it's only for that settlement. Can you verify if you can recruit generals in other settlements as Saba?

Edit: Seems that was forgotten, yes. I don't know which general type is the most proper, so I'll update the fix as soon as the historians get back to me. Please let me know if there are more settlements lacking them.

Alright, after checking it out more throughly, here's a list of settlements without any recruitable generals for Saba (and I'd suspect any other faction as well):

    Maryab
    Tamane
    Sabata
    Carna
    Ubar
    Bostra
    Petra
    Homna
    Gerrha

You can get Greek generals when you come to Hierosolyma, Palmyra (which also allows for eastern generals), Alexandreia or Charax.

Glad I can help. I've now found that you can't get any in Meroe or Axum either. I haven't had time to check any further up there (save Alexandria) though. (If no other word is given I'll check it out tomorrow.)

The problem here is that we never decided on any general unit that would fit in those provinces, so there was no client rulers available there before either. If the historians can come to a conclusion I'll make a fix for it.

Please not! We need those Puppet-Rulerz down there!

Could you make a fix with African Light Cav and possibly redo that if the team-historians come to a conclusion? Don't want to move for every town a client ruler from my other outlying territories...

Why not just fill those areas with the Hellenistic Client Ruler bodyguard, at least as a filler, assuming you were going to make a specific new bodyguard for those areas? You could always justify it as finding one of the Hellenes that had emigrated to such far away locales and giving him an offer he can't refuse. I mean, the Saba have access to the Pantodopai Phalangitai as a regional, which means enough Hellenic colonists arrived that they were able to provide training, officers, troops, etc for Macedonian-style phalanxes, right?
If you were/are going to make a BG unit for each I would recommend going by what the nobles of each area preferred to fight. For Axum/Meroe, that might be a version of the Ethiopian Cavalry or the Ethiopan Swordsmen. For the Arabian peninsula I would probably have to say the Saba Medium cavalry unless you wanted to use the Saba Noble Infantry, though that would basically be like giving the Client Ruler the Saba FM bodyguard, right (haven't played as Saba myself)?
If you don't want to do that for historical accuracy reasons maybe you could tell us what files we would have to mod/add/etc and we could start a thread in the modding section and see about making an unofficial one. I'll be the first to admit that one of the main reasons I have avoided the Arabian peninsula like the plague is for its lack of client rulers. The fact that Axum and Meroe also lack them is new to me though.

    LordCurlyton
I'm dreaming of a Saba campaign so somewhat interested in this. I guess the simplest way would be to use a hackerish way, i.e.

    1) Decide which generals should be available where. Available general units are
    Code:
    steppe general rauxsa-alanna baexdzhyntae
    hellenistic general lonchophoroi
    eastern general persian cavalry
    african general numidian nobles
    germanic general gastiz
    italic general campanian cavalry
    celtic general neitos
    2) Using DESCR_REGIONS.TXT as a reference, update export_descr_buildings. E.g., to allow recruitment of Hellenistic General in Tamane(Qataban) one can add a line
    Code:
recruit "hellenistic general lonchophoroi" 0 requires factions { gauls, scythia, romans_brutii, britons, dacia, thrace, romans_scipii, spain, greek_cities, macedon, parthia, carthage, numidia, egypt, seleucid, pontus, armenia, romans_julii, germans, saba, } and hidden_resource EA and hidden_resource E and hidden_resource y1 and hidden_resource y2 and hidden_resource n4 and hidden_resource y8
BTW I've been amazed to see how EB team bypassed the restriction on the number of hidden resources by the means of bit flags :)

I believe below are all settlements without recruitable generals

No. Yes. You need to choose the general (type of bodyguard) for each province. There is no general unit called YOUR GENERAL HERE.

For northern Arabian cities (Bosra,...) a lonchophoroi like unit could be used, as they were a popular unittype in the later game. Other arab cities, well I guess the Saby'n citizen cavalry unit is the next best thing. Though possibly the Saby'n noble infantry could be used as well.

What is unclear? IAmPhet has posted the code, now replace with your general choice.

(I don't know, if you're sill interested in an answer, but for everyone, who encounters the same problem)

There are two possible positions to enter your text. One ist for the nomads and another ist for the gov IV buildings. The second one is needed to allow the recruitment of generals in gov IV buildings, but I'd recommend to copy the lines in both passages.

But I've an additional question, how or where is it defined, that a unit is a general for recruitment. I.e. I want to make an Arabian General Unit with the same skin and stats as the Sabean Medium Cavalry, what do I've to do for that?

PS: Sorry for my bad english, I'm german.

Your English is fine. If you do not understand my English, kann ich das ganze aber auch per PM auf Deutsch an dich senden.

To add the attribute "general" to a unit, open the "export_descr_unit.txt" and add to the line "attributes" this "general_unit".

    like this:
    attributes sea_faring, hide_forest, general_unit, no_custom
Be sure, that if you use the trivial script to launch EB, you have to change the file found here:

Thx, no problem to understand (written) english, only to use it myself ;-).

To add the attribute "general" to a unit, open the "export_descr_unit.txt" and add to the line "attributes" this "general_unit".

I did not mentioned it, but you are making a backup before changing anything, do you?!
