Enjoy the paprika. Be sure to take advantage of Hungary's central location and visit the surrounding countries if you can.
Budapest I assume?

Four stage strategy from Yes, Minister:
Stage one we say nothing is going to happen.
Stage two, we say something may be about to happen, but we should do nothing about it.
Stage three, we say that maybe we should do something about it, but there's nothing we can do.
Stage four, we say maybe there was something we could have done, but it's too late now.
Paprika is Serbian, it just that spread from Hungary throughout the world. So, to properly enjoy it, he would have to travel several hundreds km south.
Budapest is a beautiful city, I'm sure you'll like it. Too bad it's almost December so you can't go swimming in Balaton. Unfortunately, that's pretty much it for Hungary, unless you like to visit spas and that sort of things...
If you want to see some real History visit the Fort of Eger. (about 1-2 hours from Budapest by train).
Budapest has also got some places worth visiting (although its a little cramped).
You should visit Ópusztaszer - its near Szeged on the southern Borders - accoding to Legend this was the place the Magyar tribes made there first Capital - supposedly on the same site Attila the Hun had his Capital while the Huns used the Carpathian basin as a base of operation. (Some legends claim Attila was buried not far from there in the River Tisza - but there is no way tp prove it).
The famous "Feszty - Körkép" - is also there. Its original title (A magyarok bejövetele) can be translated as "the coming of the magyars" or something like that. It depicts the arrival of the Magyar tribes in the Carpathian basin under the Leadership of Árpád, Grand Prince of the Magyars (more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%81rp%C3%A1d)
There are many beautiful cities aswell like Kecskemét, Debrecen, Sopron (the city of loyalty) and many more.

My nuts?
Szeged actually. I hear that that is actually the home of paprika production in Eastern Europe. I will be spending about a week or so in Budapest.
Most paprika is produced in Hungary now though. (not much of a call to fame :P)
I plan on visiting Serbia though.Of all the places in the world, I would rather visit Serbia than any other.
hmmmm....yeah, I read about that on wiki. I will probably check that out. Thanks!
Thanks all! I will have to take some pictures for you all. I am going to be staying with a family while I am there, so I hope to learn a lot about the culture and history.

You lucky bastard! A semester for what? Is this Uni?
Enjoy!
If you like brunettes it's paradise, so I have heard, never been there myself but I have heard great things about it. Tips I got from a friend of mine, stay away from gypsies before they steal the hands you need to check your pockets with, and dogs can be quite dangerous.
I thought he was speaking German, saying he would reintegrate Hungary into Austria. :-x
BLARGH!
Well there sure are many good looking brunettes here but atleast as many with other hair colour (not always there natural color but most often). The stereotyp of a true Hungarian having "brunette hair and brown eyes" is not really true if you ask me.
As a german he shouldn't have too much troubles to communicate - however it depends on wich part of the county he is in: in the western half basic german is quite well known (mostly). i have no idea how it is in the other regions![]()

Poor kid. He's so excited he doesn't know what he's talking about. Any particular reason? I mean, Serbia does have its charm, but wishing to visit more than any other country in the world??? If I had the money, I'd leave it in a second and spend my time watching beautiful girls playing beach volley on Copacabana...
It's been known to happen. It's a very serious disease. It's called The Backroom Syndrome.
Actually, Hungarian girls have a reputation of being really, hmm, promiscuous. I don't know if its true, I've only had one Hungarian girlfriend, not enough data to back it up scientifically
![]()
I think what come nearest to the truth is that every girl in every country is different.
This country here (Hungary) is no exception
Al thoose Girls I know are not what I would call promiscuous (that is if you mean what I think you mean). Infact every couple i know is exatly the opposite - say something bad about ones girlfriend and in most cases he will defend her and not just with words...
And most of them are loyal to eachother.
It is a sad fact that many stupid stereotypes (wich hardly have a reason) about different countries are wide spread and well know
I could also name some from countries close and far but I don't wish to insult anyone (most of these beliefs are nonsense).

I know, thanks! I have 3 friends who went over there, Gypsies stole from each one of them. One lost her laptop. I do not know about you, but if someone stole my lifesource, my precious laptop, I would chase them to the ends of the world. She only screamed at him, and other Gypsies blocked her path. I will be stearing clear of Gypsies as much as possible. I actually am going to carry a decoy walted and passport book in my outer-coat pocket and back pants pocket. That way any pickpocket with go after them. :P
MUHWAHWA! My grand scheme revealed! lol, no, I got no intention of starting WWIII. :P
That is good, because I know some rudimentary German, so I should be able to get along somewhat. The bad thing is that I will be in the SE part of Hungary (on the Plains).
I know. :P
I am an Eastern European scholar, and I am in love with Serbian folklore and history. I really want to meet Serbian people and talk to them. I have known several online and one student who came to America. From what I have seen, they have been very nice people compared to most Europeans. (Which is not to say that they are not without obvious flaws like all people are)
As for girls being promiscous, there actually may be scientific evidence for it. The doc who preped us for the trip warned us that Hungary has the highest instance of STDs in Eastern Europe, with the exception of Albania. I think it has something to do with hot spas. :P
Don't worry though, I do not plan on doing any of that stuff over there, so they can have all the STDs they want. :P

Nevermind, I only wanted to give you proof for your above quoted statement.
I don't know anything about Hungarian girls, except these undeniable facts:
[parody]
1.girls make up the bulk of any decent European porn.
2.girls make up the bulk of any decent European brothel.
3. Hungarian girls eat gulash with paprika twice a day (if they can afford, thrice), which makes them so incredibly hot and horny.
4. Or maybe these tasks are just performed by girls of other eastern European countries (e. g. Serbia).
5. I had a Hungarian girl as classmate in school and she was neither of the above stated.
6. The for the overwhelming majority hottest girl in my class was brunette, but from Croatia, sorry for you (and #3 in the ranking too.)

I won't comment on the last part of your post, but as for my German, I will be the first to admit that it is very poor. I only have taken two semesters of it and not had the oppurtunitty to take it since. As for my opinion on Serbs, I have known quite a few of them, as well as quite a few other Euros. I do not know a single English man who is not a snob, I know only one German who is not an elitist twit (and she was my language teacher), and all the French and Spanish I have ever met have been utterly disgusting (esp the French). I have known a few nice Russians, but I would not turn my back on half of them. I know that not all Euros are like that, but that has been my experience. The most friendly, empathetic, and helpful people I have ever known are the Americans.
My German professor told us that when she came to America she was expecting a bunch of pushy, snobby jerks, but when she got here they turned out to be much friendlier on a whole than the Germans she was used to. :P I really got a kick out of that.

Interesting. I've thought maybe it's because you have Serbian ancestry, as Vuk is relatively common Serbian name.
I must admit I was pleasantly surprised by the friendliness of Americans. Very open and direct, especially black people.
Then again Vuk, I guess most Europeans you met probably lived in America. People living in foreign countries tend to be a bit more elitist and protective about their origin, some kind of defence mechanism against different enviroment... You'll see that most Europeans are friendly...
Nah, I picked the name because I love Serbian history and the legend of the Battle of Kosovo. I believe that Vuk Brankovic was really innocent, and not a coward or traitor :P.
You may be partially right though, most Euros I have met have been living in the US. 2 Germans I knew though were students studying here for a semester. They were the two most arrogant people who I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. :P
The Russian I know who I said was really friendly was actually a Chechnyan. He was muslim and he came to America to go to college. His father found out that he was dressing like an American dating an American girl, so he threatened to kill him if he came back. :P He decided to stay in America for now needless to say. :P
He is a really nice guy, just kind of reserved. I mention him as proof that you can live in another country without being defensive or hostile. I still see your point though. I am hoping to travel while in Hungary and see some of West Europe, including Germany, so I hope that I will get a better impression of them. I'll just have to hide that I am an American at first. :P

In my above post I made a joke, if anybody didn't get it. It wasn't meant insulting.
P.S. @ Vuk:
You're absolutely right on the matter. People in their native country are normally waaayyy nicer than their fellow compatriots in a foreign country. I have made the same experience, with Turkish people mostly.
