After playing Total war only in SP for a long, long, time, i finally gave MP a try.

ONE QUESTION: What is the factor that decides wich unit will be my taisho?

Imagine my despair, when my taisho happened to be in an low honour arquebusiers unit....

Yep, once my general routed, the rest of my army soon followed...

It's always the first unit you choose, your taisho is always the first unit you pick, I suggest either melee or cavalry!

I wouldn't do cavalry, since they can be easy targets. Naginita or YS work great. But yes it's the first unit picked.

A gunny gen rules! He can shoot lead through your lines onto oncomming victims. Heck, there are only two types of units in STW, really:

    1. Those that dispense Lead
    2. Those that consume Lead.

Which do you want your gen to be?

Thank you all for your responses. I think moral and the type of game (low or high Koku) will determine wich unit i choose for general but at least i will choose (and not get caught with my taisho that i was planning to offer as bait).

A unit I have just started using as my general sometimes is a honour 8 Yari Ashi. I first used this unit as a joke, but liked the results.
    Positive Points
    1. Costs less than a honour 3 monk.
    2. In over 30 games, has never routed before losing 2/3 of unit and killing at least 80 enemy.(playing 60 man units)
    3. Flanking cav units never attack him twice.
    4. Fast enough to move over battlefield without getting tired.
    5. High honour seems to help rally other units as they run by.

The benefits of high honour Yari Ashi was preached to me by RaZoRfury. She normally uses several of these units to great effect.

    Thanks,

Well friend here is a lil trick that peeved alot of people off, I used for a few months, a h9 yari samurai general unit, if your smart and know how to use him, you can take out maybe 140 to 150 men, just from that general, also trips people out to see a general rushing head first into a group of monks, they think I'm an idiot but turn to see 3 monk units running hehe, and note they do not die easy, they can last till 10 men before routing!

    Knite,
Would you not just love to see your opponents face, when a Yari Ashi or Yari Sam General, takes on a WM unit and completely trashes it.

    Thanks,

i do use a lot of 4 hounour ashis in mp (speed, cheaper than yari sam 2 and they can take them out), but the idea of a 8 hounour ashi or sam seems good to me. I will try it.
