Thread: Armor Upgrades

    Default Armor Upgrades

What is your strategy for building the Armorer line of building and upgrading your troops?

Usually I don't upgrade my troops at all. I always build the next level of unit producing buildings in the castles and markets in cities, but perhaps building some upgrades would be a better strategy. Does it depend on the faction? I'd like to hear what everyone thinks.

I usually build them later, or last, as I prefer higher-end troops ASAP (castles) and a better economy (cities/castles). I build blacksmiths, only if I still have money to spare later on.

:edit: mostly rely on captured settlements for the armorer line. They tend to be on my borders and so are most of my troops

I upgrade all my units. It looks better and some extra defense makes units a little more durable. When I play England my main line of defense are spear levies / militia. Upgrading them to heavy mail gives them that extra strength so they can defend gates, breaches or the main line on the battlefield.

I usually build to light/heavy mail in my border cities, but in castles I usually start building armorers when I don´t have anything better to build, but eventually I build armorers to all castles because I like drafting my troops from all over the kingdom, mainly with horse troops who can get from edge of my kingdom to the other in couple turns.
Armors really help alot if your best troops have somewhat poor armor anyways (Croat axemen for Hungary). And in border cities spear militia with 2nd level upgrade armor really kick ass in siege battle defense.

I usually build them in cities while in castles I build barracks. This way I will have both high tier barracks and high tier blacksmith buildings in my empire. And then I just need to transport units from castles to cities if I want armor upgrades.
