Well, we came to help. If he didn't want it, we could have stayed back and let him get killed also .

Pardon me good sir, but it appears your statement is not a fully formed thought and therefore perplexes me. Please elaborate, if you will, so that I can better understand your position on this most important issue.

I must say, this thread is redolent of the high-pitched lamenting song of the Lesser Imperialist in full flight.

"All we did for them. Brought civilisation, not many dead really. Ungrateful oiks."

(For interested observers, the song modulates up and down, rising to a thin whining at the end).

It's sadly amusing when Americans find themselves channelling George III in defence of George W.
"If there is a sin against life, it consists not so much in despairing as in hoping for another life and in eluding the implacable grandeur of this one."
    Albert Camus "Noces"

There's a slight difference between "helping the people overthrow a despot" and "invade country and bomb it to pieces"...

It's not like good ol' Saddam was impossible to overthrow. Do remind me, what happen that time they tried to overthrow him?

Was that the time they told the Shias in the south to rise up but then realised that if the shias overthrew Saddam then the likely outcome would be that the shia groups would be in power and that meant that as they were backed by Iran the result would be the supreme council for islamic revoluion taking over thus extending Irans influence in the middle east ?
See the western invasion gave a far better result than supporting the uprising would have , since now the Iranian backed supreme council for islamic revolution are the new government and they have extended Irans influence in the middle east .
    Errrrr.....

    Lol. Shoe throwing=Terrorism. I'm terrified.

Oh, and the SS thing, it's not that the fact he threw the shoe, no one saw that coming, it is that the journalist was given enough time to bend down, pick up, and throw the other shoe with no SS in sight.

Or did they get cold feet?

Hopefully this story should inspire more of Iraq's young men to take up the cause...or beat their AKs into shoes.
