why are the personal avatars gone

I use the URL avatars as I've never been able to get on with the TW portrait ones. Also when you finally find one that you think's ok and then post in a thread with about ten other people using the same avatar...

The URL ones are very nice, especially the ones from the SW mod. IIRC you can get your own avatar uploaded there for you to use, I believe that the only restrictions are that is must have some kind of historical reference.

I would say that unless he fits within the time frame of existing TW titles then he should not be considered "historical". Otherwise you have a scenario where something from yesterday is "historical" (which it is technically) and this opens up virtually anything except sci-fi/fantasy as an Avatar.

Actually, AFAIK, we never had custom avatars here - so the thread title would not be entirely correct as it implies that this option has been removed at some point.

i dont see why an avatar must be total war related, there are other themes people like, we dont all necessarily want some dodgy avatar from a total war game with freaky looking generals and the like, partly why i swap avatar so frequently because i get bored of them
