That's the whole point...
We ship them > cheats are not allowed > we need cities that can produce our legions close to the east before conquering east..

What am I talking, chinese?
The whole point is to slow expansion.
If we conquer Greece, we will have to build up our strength there first, before moving even more east into Asia.
Otherwise we will indeed have to ship legions across huge distances.

That is kind of the whole point, that and we do not want too experienced legions...

For another example: we can't go conquering Iberia witheout either having decent recruitment options in Gaul or willingness to ship legions by sea back and forth.

If we play the way we play now, this game will hardly present any challenge towards the AI+ we'll grow very large very fast (for which we do not have the playerbase anyway)

seeing as there is no point arguing against you and that you would only post more suggestions and game changes which I think would be absurd, I'll just make it known that I shall vote no on most of them when they are proposed. in particular:
-returning legions to Italy to disband are re-recruit them (or whatever that has been suggested which is somewhat similar to this)
-not move_character-ing a legion to frontiers after changing their command or doing other stuff in Italy (unless they're resupplying/retraining). (see below explanation for 2nd quote)
-greatly limiting expansion by preventing . seriously, for an EB game, those limiting of legions stuff makes it very slow.
-no retraining (they actually lose chevrons when retrained)
-something which does not define what provincial and personal legions should be and how should they be recruited. (actually I would vote yes for something which properly defines what they are)

and it won't be much longer until troops can be recruited in those provinces. So there will be not a lot of marching.

marians would be coming any time now. unless you're referring to regional units; which I'm afraid your legion proposals do not allow such a thing except for the alae. in that case is still less than half the legion.

At every freeze of save game, one of the consuls needs to check this, and act accordingly..

For the third time: Any ROMAN TERRITORY. Which means the legion can usually disband wherever it is unless it's invading.

avatars can be moved. Legions can't. When a character switches command, the legion stays where it is anyway under my new reforms. So the only travelling legions will have to do, are the newly re-created legions from the nearest recruitment point to their province. THIS will ensure that we do not conquer provinces which are too far away from where we can recruit (AND KEEP EXPANSION IN CHECK)

We've played for 15 years and we've conquered entire Italy and almost the whole of Epereiros. Far from a slow game, on the contrary, rather fast if you ask me.

As far as I know, there has always been a retrain bug where units do not lose XP when retraining.

WTF? According to my rank reforms, ALL legions will be provincial legions. Everythign that is paid by the state, is a provincial legion because they all are designated to a province.

The only exception to this, are units which are funded by a house. This has been clear in the rank reforms for about 2 weeks now.

I don't have the map here, but if you conquer a city nearby your province, you can't be marching that far.
The need for legions to be created near their point of usage is exactly what my rules are for, so we don't expand too fast. We will have to make the choice of either slow expansion until our border regions can produce armies OR face longer logistical routes.

Since the creation/disbanding/recreation is done during a congressional session, this is all easily trackable by anyone...
At the start of every congressional session, Navarro can check which legions are up for replacement, the consul can do the necessary actions and navarro can change the library when the session is concluded.

unfortunately I can't complete my comment tonight because a stupid headache I got from hitting my nose on a stupid pole while playing basketball and causing a massive nosebleed and from playing too much EB over the weekends is making me unable to stay up longer.

and I'll just say that your proposal's part about legions being paid by the state may contradict with navarro's intentions of a personal legions; he mentioned it (personal legions being paid from forums trapezai) before.

and I don't exactly see how under your suggestions the game would be carried out; because it seems radically different from the current method. like provincial govs/consular legions being the only guys conquering stuff (correct me if I'm wrong), state legions (currently standard legions) having no defined role (I don't see it anyway) and etc.

and about the retrain thing, it does lose. a unit of heavily depleted arabian levies from my current saba campaign with 2 silver chevrons and 12 men was reduced to 3 bronze chevs after retraining

Dus simply said: personal legions are paid by a House, and do not fall under the recreation rule

all other legions which are created by the whole senate are designated to a province (ergo the term provincial legions.)

They will not, because they'll all become provincial legions and thus the governors become the commanders or atleast get to choose them.

Two points: technically those assignments was from the GM, and that overrides the rules. It's Navarro's game, after all.

Second point: someone could make a charter amendment changing that part when the session starts.

This is a hard one, because IRL Hiero supported Rome. If I/Appius had been the one to "force" the alliance, I would have RPed it as Hiero unwittingly insulting me, leading me to besiege the town and lie to the Senate by claiming that he had allied with Carthage.

haha ya idk i love the history man. The whole Gaelic, everything. The Scots have such mysterious history a lot of it made from legend and other history, we dont get that kinda fun and heritage in the U.S. Our history is pretty much plain and simple.
