Thread: Donation!?
Husar 16:02 01-18-2009
So I just saw a Donation button in the Backroom, about where the banners usually are and it leads me to a paypal page where I can donate to the org or so, what's up with that? Is that supposed to finance our own little orgah island or can we just sacrifice our money to lord Tosa?

I just noticed that as well, so what's it all about?

Lord Tosa has need of a new sauna, also with the current weather its just not practical to only have an outdoor swimming pool... one is needed inside also... so the plebes are asked to 'donate'... get to it! ;)

The ads are still both at the top and bottom of the page. Maybe they aren't creating sufficient capital to keep the site running?

It could be a scam...

I've also noticed that the Victonia forum has disappeared. Perhaps this is related?

I don't see the connection, but noticed this as well.

I too am curious about the donations ad. I use adblocker, and have not had any ads in that space for over three months. Clearly, it isn't just an ordinary ad.

As per the Victonia area... It frankly was outdated anyways, and CA himself requested it be shut down months ago.

EDIT: I seem to be only getting the donation link when in the backroom. Curiouser ad curiouser...

Just a suggestion to Tosa - so we don't have threads spring up like this in horror whenever something odd happens, a good proposition would be to have some sort of blog or "Tosa's Fireside Chat" in this forum - sort of where the idea is presented along with your thoughts/reasoning on the matter, and, maybe, comments could be allowed to help improve the item constructively. It would be nice to have a little more transparency, if only out of curiosity.

As for my opinion I'm going to repeat my usual statement on these ad banners. These banners were originally intended for mods and in .Org projects. Not for external advertisements which aimed to make profit - I sort of classify this under that banner.

Unfortunately, that's what the donations are for... fuel. Times are hard after all.

Stop being so greedy and just donate!*

Staff needs a new swimming pool and yacuzzi's, our BMW fleet is getting outdated and we're out of champagne.

For donations above 500,00 €, please contact me in private. I'll make sure your generosity won't go unnoticed.

* Disclaimer: I don't have a clue what it's about, so I suggest you just don't click on it.

Im sure ppl would donate u know.

It just that people need to make sure if it comes from the .org or its an external scam link...

Yeah, one year ago I had donated 1000 EUR for this greenie without contacting him private and it went unnoticed.

No traces at all.

You're driving me into occasions which need more replying that...ouch!..hmf..hurts my newly-broken-from-ultimate-rejoice arm. At least I could be told that that Lada 1500 needed maintenance.

Hello,

The donation button is put in the Backroom only.

The Victoria subforum is made invisible, to clean the forum up a bit. I don't think anyone is actively using it right now?

No, CountArach asked for it to be closed and removed because the game is over.

I think it might be a good idea (if the donation button is live and collecting donations, rather than an experiment) to give a public description of what the money will be supporting.*

Is it for general or itemised expenses?
Is there a shortfall from advertising?
Is this a temporary appeal or are monthly/annual donations expected?
Does such a donation attract charitable deductions?
Will the Org become liable for tax (ie where is it registered?) and who holds the liability?
What would be the typical donation expected?
Are donors guaranteed anonymity?

I realise that this is a volunteer site, but if we are seeking donations there should be some sort of accounts available for members.

*Aside from the obvious, now that Kukri is no longer supplying the staff with beer and stacks of imported French "literature".

Two more questions:

Does the money go to Tosa directly or telefragged?

Does it accept organ donations?

So your Netherlands Antilles beach property adventure did not go well I presume?

Does that mean I won't be getting a new PC for ETW? Maybe put donation button in Entrance Hall and Frontroom too?

I'd pay like... $10 to get back in the backroom... call it a fine.

Tosa, you've got the power.
