In grew up in Detroit, USA. As a kid, we did "progressive dinner", that is: have one course at Aunt Loretta's house (and little presents), then all drive to Uncle Joe's house for another course (and little presents), than all drive to Cousin Pete's place for another course, etc, then everybody meet up at Grandma's for the big bird feast. So, nobody had to put on the big spread all alone. The adults all drank at every stop as well.
Kind of an "over the river and through the woods, to Grandmother's house we go" sort of thing.
Then, touch football outdoors for the kids and non-drunk adults.
Here in southern California, it's quieter. Phone calls to all the relatives (though most of us "meet" on FaceBook these days), turkey for early dinner. Grandson over for presents and dessert.
