    Question CD/DVD combo Drive

I'm having issues with my Gateway laptop's CD-RW/DVD-RW drive. Until about 2 days ago, it was working fine. Then, while I was playing a game, the drive starting making funky noises. I popped the CD out, and ever since then, I have been unable to play anything on the CD medium - music CDs, regular CDs, even a CD/DVD drive cleaner! HERE's the real kicker, though. DVDs work perfectly fine. Anyone know anything about this peculilar problem?

Is the laptop under warranty? If so, get it sorted ASAP. It may be that the drive is damaged/faulty.

Funny noises and the drive not reading a certain type of disc could indicate a fault with the drive. Personally I've only had bad experiences of laptop optical drives, they tend to be fragile, unreliable and expensive to replace. Getting it sorted under warranty is your best bet.
