    Default Campaign Map Turn Speed

EBII is, I understand, aiming for the maximum number of factions, complex scripting and a nice big detailed map. However have you guys given thought to how slow the campaign turns might become? If you've played Stainless Steel or DLV before it takes many minutes for turns to complete. IMO the game becomes unplayable.

One of the biggest (and probably the main) complaints people have with EB1 is the slow turn speed. Before the 1.2 system of client rulers there was a mini mod that completely took out the scripting needed for the old way of doing client rulers for the sake of improving turn speeds. I believe I read somewhere that in M2TW there are better ways for doing the same things that could only be done by scripting in the RTW engine. Which means less scripting (the cause of all slow turn speeds) and thus more tolerable turns. # of factions just add a negligible couple more seconds to the turns and a detailed map I believe in no way affects turn speeds.

Well Stainless Steel has only a little scripting (faction leader death announcements and some such, no garrison script) but it still takes minutes per turn due to having the maximum number of factions, and maximum map size.

What exactly is the size of the script file(s) for Stainless Steel?

I recall hearing somewhere that strat map pathfinding is one of the reasons for slow play on mods with large maps...

Thats not so true... my turns take 30 seconds max. I'm sure you'll be able to upgrade your comp by the time EBII comes out anyways, probably not much to worry about.

I'm not playing any M2 mods right now due to the damn turns taking so long, while EB is practically zippy fast, but since I'm planning on getting a new computer for Empire in March I figure I'll be set for EB2 too.

It is playable, you could merely get a book and read a few lines while the AI turns are being done. The in-between turns slowness doesn't nearly affect the gaming experience as the campaign-map scrolling slowness, which wasn't anymore with EB 1.1

Thats what I did before I upgraded my computer, a book, tv, homework- theres plenty of things you can do. Really I get less done now that I play my EB turns super fast. ahah

Well, it's playable by definition, but it's definitely not enjoyable for me. Splitting my attention 3-5 minutes at a time is just an exercise in frustration.

Well, if it's of any consolation, there's still that old story about these guys who did both pushups and situps in between turns. After a while of playing EB, they ended up being quite buff. Seriously, get a couple weights and work out, you'll get wondrous results.
