2) Or, you could have realized your error and been more clear to avoid this mess in the first place.

3) Actually, it's been a common practice since the early days, especially when there's so much ambiguity involved. I especially subscribe to it, since if there's one thing you should know about me, I always hedge my bets (except in the most drastic of circumstances). Sure, I might not win as much outright, but over time I win more because my losses are minimized.
