    The Forum Romanum

The Forum of Roma is a magnificent place. From the fine taste of goods that are imported from all over the Mediterranean, to the gossip of returning legionaries and single women. If you care too hear the big news throughout the Republic this is the place to open one's ears.

Event 1: The Problem With Liguria!

    Event Closed for Obvious Reasons

A dusty Segestan man walks through the forum, he is drunken and angry. He pushes and shoves his way down the streets and stumbles onto a bench...

"You...Romans!....Think your so great! This city is crap! I dare any man to come to Segesta...to even cross the border into the Liguria! We have a force there so strong it will make your legions look like toy soldiers. Come if you dare...Romans!"

A town watchmen comes and drags the man off. In the midst of the forum, a scribe decides to personally go and see this force for himself, a legionary tribuni decides to report back to his general, and an armorer believes he can profit from the situation.

    Rules
This event will require a skill of writing.

Choose Which Role Best Fits You
1:The 'Reporter' Route- You can write as if you are a scribe and discuss your travels to Segesta and what you saw there in a minimum 3 part story. (Your avatar will play as the scribe, you don't have to change his name and yes he actually must be moved to a place he is writing about.)

2:The 'Military' Route- For the duration of this event, both Legio I and Legio II can have any # of Tribuni to on their way to Segesta. You can join up and challenge this force. (Once again if you are part of this event you must right a 3 part military version of the story and you avatar must actually move.)

3:The 'Lucrative' Route- You will play an armorer, and will write about bringing the finest of you works to this supposedly large force in Segesta and make a fortune. (Your avatar will play as the armorer, you don't have to change his name and yes he actually must be moved to a place he is writing about.)

Story would best be broken down into, the day before you left, your journey there, and what happens there.

Victory: This one is a surprise! Yes it is a juicy one tho ;)

I think you should be able to post a story now if you tie it with Asina.

just another question, if nobody else signs up and my stories win the prize, does Cicero also receive the prize? or would it be considered as Asina's stories and therefore the rewards would have had gone to him but could not since he is dead?

edit: I just finished up the last part of the story, and updated the post which I made 4 posts ago in this topic

well id say you could write them from Ciceros point of view...and ill think about it seeing as you took the time to participate. I thought we would get more in this one as our bunch seems to have some fun writing skill.

    Negotiations:

Consul Cicero scribbled something onto a piece of parchment, handed it to his clerk and rose from his desk. After a short while of deliberation, he wandered out of the Campus Martius, towards the Forum. While there, he was seen conversing with Dux Regulus, and what happened afterwards was unknown, because both had promptly left the scene, after a few minutes.

Slightly morose, he paced back to the Campus Martius and prepared his horse. Cicero was to ride north to a town near Massilia to meet with Carthaginian envoys; concerning the latter nation's recent maneuvers which threatened the City of Massilia, an ally of the Roman Republic.

    Two weeks later, near Massilia:
Cicero had been travelling for a fortnight; the negotiations with the Carthaginians are to be held the next day in a nearby town; and Cicero was anxious, on whether he would represent his interests or Rome's or his allies'.

Negotiations were held in a tent, guarded by two large Iberians and nobody was allowed to enter. Representing the city of Kart Hadast was a Senator of theirs, Eshmunazzar. Eshmunazzar was skilled in many languages, so he was able to converse with Cicero fluently.
Cicero's task was to demand that Carthage removes their presence from east of the pyrenees, so as to protect Massilia and more importantly, Rome's trading interests with the Greek colonies of that area.
Eshmunazzar's purpose was mostly similar; he demands that Rome halt all diplomatic ties with Massilia other than trade; and has shown that Carthage is going to back that ultimatum with force, if necessary.

The debate was quick. Cicero had been prepared to offer peace and some compromise; but not the compromise of severing ties with Massilia, for Massilia was far too important an ally of Rome. Eshmunazzar delivered that ultimatum and had little compromise. It was little wonder why neither of the Greek cities in that area had approached Carthage for assistance.

Negotiations had failed. War has been declared; and Carthaginian troops, Iberian, Libyan, Phoenician, have been deployed in Iberia and Lilibeo in preparation for battle. What would be the senate's next decision?

(OOC: damn, my narrating and descriptive skills suddenly suck)

Event 2: The 1st Punic War.

rules (implemented ingame by gamemaster (navarro951)):

1: War would be declared on Carthage ingame by any means. (While IC Carthage declares war on us)
2: two halfstacks of Carthaginian armies would be spawned in their Iberian cities (done via create_unit, since Carthage has two cities in Iberia, 10 units would be spawned in each); and a halfstack spawned in Lilibeo
3: Decisions on this event would be done in the coming congressional session.
4: Any movement of Legions decided during the congressional session would be implemented via the move_character console command (where possible) to the nearest friendly territory available (e.g. if an edict is for an attack on the carthaginian force in southern gaul, the Legion stated in the edict would be moved along with its commander to Massilia)
    5. if there are any objections/suggestions to how this event would be conduted, please post them in the OOC thread, thank you.

2: ships (not the cheap type, the real warships) shall be raised in Capua port after a (currently) secret part of the story has been posted

The First Punic War Part III: Naval Supremacy and the invasion of Africa...

(I have made a change in plans for the final part here of this event...)

    Here is some background:

After hearing of Sicilias fall to the Romans, Hamilcar realizes the one Roman weakness, its lacking in naval power. While it gained a small fleet from the crushed Carthaginian fleet, Hamilcar still had another two hundred ships at his disposal. His plan became clear, make Roman trade in the high seas a hassle!

Meanwhile, back in Roma, orders would be sent down that The city of Carthage must be conquered! The job would fall on Legio V Italia, newly trained and ready for war.

    _______________------------______________----------_____________-----------___________

Heres how it will play out:

None of this starts until Sicilia is fully in our possession mind you.

    1. I will spawn a large Navy in Carthage and we will RP that they are striking our trade routes (I cannot force them to blockade us).

    2. I will spawn our smaller navy now fully constructed from the Carthaginian wrecks. We will attempt to engage the Carthaginians around Sicilia.

    3. Legio V will sail to Africa in an attempt to take Carthage. Appivs Nero, being in command of Legio V now, will besiege Carthage and hold it.

    4. Finally the war will come to a close using force_diplomacy, in which we will gain Korsim, Sardin, and of course keep Sicilia. We will return Carthage to them and leave africa. I will add_money 5000 to our coffers as ransom for any prisoners of Carthage we took, And the war will end almost historically perfect.
