I'm considering returning to playing MTW despite the mouse-over bug (I've found a way to fight battles via improvisation). Actually, this improvisation is the point of this topic. I've modified the Human player's group formations, GroupFormations.txt, so that I can change unit depth in battle at the tap of a button (can't alter rank depth at all any other way, it's entirely fubared). However, HistoricalFormations.txt has me a bit confused. The historical formations in-game do change the rank depth of units which is very handy in the deployment phase (can't use the group formations options at that point, unfortunately). However, in the file, there doesn't seem to be an equivalent to the NumRows that I can modify in the GroupFormations.txt. What should I be looking for, then? I'd post this in the modification section, but I'm worried whether it will get much attention there or not.
Besides, I've popped into these forums and thought of saying hi a couple of times, for old times' sake. Just never knew what to say. LOL.
My improvisation isn't perfect, but it will allow me to fight battles. The radar map works fine, plus if I use debug mode, I can alter the angle of the camera to look down like the radar map, and select units. The only problem with that last part is that it selects units in the centre of the screen, and I have to therefore scroll across the screen and change angle to select my desired units and relocate them. They'll only ever move to somewhere in the centre of the screen, or be selected from there. But still, allows me a bit more freedom than the radar map. Group formations will allow me to pause the game, assign a rank-depth change, and then I just need to ensure the move order isn't carried through (but because the rank-depth change is carried through, even when cancelling orders, I need to be careful here and be inventive about how I apply this to a limited number of units - e.g. 1 Spearmen and 2 Urban Militia, when I want the Spearmen to be 10 ranks deep and the Urban Militia 5 ranks). It is a bit fiddly, but, meh, either this or no MTW. LOL.
