    Default complete uninstall

hi, my rtw won't uninstall. I'm using windows vista, and whenever i try to start uninstalling it, it just says something like, "Uninstaller has stopped working." In case you're wondering, I'm using RTW gold edition. So is there a way to just delete everything related to it(edit registry, delete ALL files, etc.?)
    thanks for the help

I remember that RTW used to take a really long time to uninstall for me for some reason, it would get frozen on 99% and take 10 extra min to finish for no see-able reason. I don't remember any sort of application error though, maybe you can give us some more info?

Do you have any other problems with other programs freezing or is it just the RTW uninstall?

If you find the Rome Total War programs folder and delete that it's about 99% of the game gone. You may have to manually search the registry for Rome Total War and delete what you find to get rid of the rest.

the thing is, something in the game got messed up so im trying to uninstall it and then re-install it. But the "install" thing always gets greyed out. So, if I delete the whole folder and remove it fom the registry, will that allow me to re-install it?

One thing you should never do it a search of the registry, deleting keys as you find them - you need to be a little more precise to ensure you don't get rid of anything you need.

To manually get rid of the game first select "Start" and then type in "regedit" in the "Start Search" box. Press the enter key after doing this.

In the registry editor expand "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE". Then expand "SOFTWARE" and the "The Creative Assembly".

Delete the category named "Rome - Total War - Gold Edition". Then minimize the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" category.

After that, expand the section titled "HKEY_CURRENT_USER". As before open up "SOFTWARE" and then "TheCreativeAssembly".

Delete the category named "RomeTW". You also can delete "TheCreativeAssembly" category if there is nothing else in it. Then exit the registry editor.

Now the installer will not recognize the existence of any game files on your PC.

After you've done all that, if you want to get rid of all the un-needed files, go to your "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly" folder.

In there, delete the folder named "Rome - Total War". You also can delete the "Creative Assembly" folder it's in if it's empty otherwise.

After that, to totally kill the game, empty your "Recycle Bin".

After all that, your done. The CD will in the future treat the game as if it were never installed, allowing you to install it again if you wish.

    Hope this helps

wow. thanks a billion. i have actually been searching for a thorough explanation like this for a long time, and i'm about to go start doing this now. Help yourself to an e-cookie :)

RTW gold edition is patch 1.5, right?

AARGH the problem is still there i hate this game with a passion at the moment ive reinstalled it twice already and the problem still occurs. maybe if i try to install it on another computer i can see if it's a problem with the computer or the disc/installer...
