Thread: Level 5 factional baracks
Gunzak 01:01 01-13-2009
I am playing a Roman campaign and I created type 4 governments in Taras and Rhegion and am in the process of creating a level 5 factional baracks in both, bout 5 turns away. I was curious what would happen if I deleted the type 4 government and created a type 1 or type 2. What the client ruler become an imposter making him useless? Would there be any other negatives? I have about 10 generals in Rome currently training for when I put them into a city as a manager so I wont have a lack of generals.

It is considered an exploit to build high level barracks then switch to an alterative government and build high level barracks of the other type, but you are well capible of it.

There shouldn't be any additional problems in doing what you ask.

Until I hit the Polybian reforms I cant build another baracks in Taras or Rhegion. It is currently around 245 BC so I have a long way to go even though I have all the requirements met and more. Was just curious what would happen if I switched.

Two quick questions are generals that can be recruited from a level 5 baracks any good and are they considered family members? I had a client ruler in Taras become a family member when he had a heroic victory and was offered an adoption.

Regional Barracks you mean. If you destroy your government right now, your precious progress will be lost as well as the invested funds. And yes your petty king will become an impostor.

Yes but it depends of course what type of General you choose, Misthophoros Strategos or Imperator Italicus for example. I'd go with the first one. Generally recruited Generals are no Family Members. I was never offered an adoption of a General into the family.

So if I build a level 5 regional baracks then destroy the type 4 government and build a type 2 I wont be able to recruit from it again? I am probably not going to as the client rulers are very high quality generals with a ton of management and influence and the cities are producing a good amount of income.

How many generals can I recruit from a level 5 regional? I currently have around 20 territories with every single city having a general and about 10 more in Rome at the moment so no need right now but just curious.

Sure you are, but not if you destroy your government before the barracks are built, than not.

As many as you can afford.

I wasn't planning on destroying the type 4 government until the baracks was completed. I actually like a lot of the units from the regional over the Roman ones. Taras can produce medium greek cavalry which are very nice and they can produce archers which I like for attacking cities. For infantry I still prefer Principes.

You can't train generals from Level 5 regionals anymore.
You can only train them if you have a Type IV settlement.

Really? I'm 99% sure that I can recruit generals from L5 regionals where I have switched to a TypeII-government, at least in my Carthage-campaign.

As we are on it, in a lot of regions there is no point in building a level 5 regional barracks anymore, now that we are able to recruit generals by using the government building, is this correct? Only a few regional units need lvl 5 and they are only available in a very limited number of provinces.

And I am 100% I can't in my Romani campaign.

Does anyone know about the other factions?

Agreed. I have Syrakousai as a Type 4 and there is no reason to build a lvl 5 now.

I think if you can recruit your Generals from the government "building" you're playing 1.2, if from lvl 5 barracks, 1.1. You 1.2ers save a lot of mnai.
