When I go to the home page of the website sometimes I see guys that look like night raiders from vanilla Rome.....who the hell are they and where do I find them, I need them to fight back the roman advance.....plus i like watching them chop up masses of roman soldiers......
Tellos Athenaios 17:58 01-13-2009
They are no more. But I suggest getting some Chatti Youths. They put a fright into enemy infantry, have nice AP weapons and don't tire all that easily. Should work wonders against the Roman chainmail...
JKLeibrandt 18:02 01-13-2009
man that stinks, those guys were pretty kewl, are you talking about the club infantry guys? do there clubs do well against the Romans? Ive just been having a hard time putting a hurting on the Roman cohorts and stuff, it seems they are just very powerful Infantry and Im running out of ideas....
Tellos Athenaios 18:06 01-13-2009
Yes they are club infantry. Since you're Sweboz I presume you can recruit them directly from the Chatti tribe but if not they're available as mercs. The main difference with the ordinary club infantry is that they put fear into the enemy infantry, which really works well against swordsmen who have to suffer the abuse even if you engage them head-on (conversely: engaging a phalanx unit head on with such infantry merely serves to deplete your numbers).
JKLeibrandt 18:08 01-13-2009
Awesome, thanks for the tips. Hopefully i can push the Roman Swine back south of the Alps....hopefully.....

That's the spirit! Now, go Teutoberg Forest on their respective arses!
JKLeibrandt 21:38 01-13-2009
I hope so, If I slaughter 2 or 3 legions will the Romani Leader go crazy????
Hopefully he'll start headbutting walls and wearing walrus (seal?) skin. Victory is guaranteed!

Meh, those guys might be useful, as they are ugly, i miss the night raiders
JKLeibrandt 23:32 01-13-2009
yeah they are pretty hideous, and I as well miss the Night Raiders, the Gaesatae are kewl but the Germans really need a unique really barbaric, bloody crazy warrior unit, I guess I will settle for the midnight black ink covered raiders which are pretty kewl too, I hope the clubs do the job....for now....
ziegenpeter 11:37 01-14-2009
what about the silesian skadugangonez?

There are the Worgozez, who do scare enemy infantry and are reminiscent of night raiders. And the Woithiz Wotho, who are black-painted naked spearmen that scare enemies as well.
JKLeibrandt 13:53 01-14-2009
Those were the guys I was thinking of, they are pretty good too..

But who are the silesian skadugangonez? I dont think ive run into them before... are they mercs???

Um, no they don't.

Do you knoiw how I get the Worgozez? Do I need the sweboz reform?
But I've never heard about the withiz wotho...
Worgozez are availible as mercenarys only :(
Slightly off topic but I can't wait to see what the EB dudes do with the body paint for the barbarians. All the pretty patterns...

No they are those black painted naked fanatics from Gawjam-Silengoz.

Just out of curiosity, are all the "old" unit models and skins still in the files? So maybe we could resurrect the old Axe-guys.

Woithiz Wotho, formerly known as Skaduganganz (Skadugangonez?)( and probably Wodanawulfaz before that), the sooty shadow stalking Silesian harriers.

They did in previous versions. Was that taken out because people didn't fear the Chatti?
Watchman 16:43 01-18-2009
Mainly because it made little sense for those guys to have the attribute; wild-eyed savages out for your blood are dime a dozen, and if they don't have something particularly creepy and off-putting about them (like the freaky "ghost-warrior" war-paint of the black dudes, the deliberate wolf-imitation of those loony wolf-mercs or the unsettling "heroic nudity" plus its magical overtones of the Celtic nekkid guys) arguably for example the Celtic elites in full war regalia are way scarier when they're bearing down on you.
ziegenpeter 17:23 01-18-2009
IMHO the chatti youth is the weakest unit of the sweboz.
Watchman 17:56 01-18-2009
Well it's not supposed to be exactly awe-inspiring. Recall that their overall function is similar to the more generic "Youths", that is, serve as the first-line missile-absorber ahead of the line troops proper, except the Chatti version is a low-end shock infantry unit rather than skirmisher. Note their unusually high morale for such a low-end unit.
Basically, if you wanted to use them like they apparently functioned IRL, you'd throw them against the enemy frontline ahead of the line spearmen and whatnot to deplete the enemy's precursors, cause some damage and tire out his units. (From what I gather those Dacian falx guys had a similar function, except they were presumably preceded by clouds of Komatai skirmishers.)
Naturally, expect heavy casualties (well, these guys
are dirt cheap...). Chatti parenting principles clearly leave something to be desired.
antisocialmunky 18:43 01-18-2009
How's that worse than having your kids get drugged up to the eyeballs and then run into a wall of pointy things naked?
Watchman 19:57 01-18-2009
The Gaesatae, you mean ? I was under the impression they were already relatively experienced younger warriors looking for a "shortcut to glory" (and/or older men looking to "go out with a bang") and hence volunteering for such rather... risky style of combat where one presumably didn't much worry about his retirement days. Whatever crap they took to "hype themselves up", even if it was more of a placebo to assist in reaching an autosuggestive "berserk" state, can't have been too healthy in the long term...
From what I gather, this Chatti thing was their rite-of-passage into adulthood... harsh realm.
well, using the blood young poorly eqiped guys as meatshield for the veterans with better equipment, was not just used by the Germans. the hastati-princeps-triari system does not differ too much from the germanic Jugunthiz-Dugunthiz sytem.
And amung the germanic tribes it was probably more honorable to make the first kill in melee.
but sorry, i'm biased for i would have been one of those guys, back then :D, because i'm yet to kill a man and don't plan on dooing so in near future :D
