Thread: Mercenary recruitment and some questions.

Default Mercenary recruitment and some questions.

I was curious if anyone has made a mercenary recruitment guide, specifically for the Romanii. I've been having trouble finding a particular unit, and the area I recruited it from. The recruitment viewer may be outdated, but I'm not positive if I'm just stupid and can't find the name.

Also, some questions people have probably asked, but I don't have 10 hours searching for them here, so...

    1) What navel ships strike a balance between cost-effectiveness, and strength?

    2) When you build local barracks, does it help to lower/increase the rebellion levels?

    3) Squalor levels. How do I decrease this if there are no more upgrades in the health department, ie. highest possible palace level, with all the public health upgrades? And is it caused by low city happiness, or it not, what does cause it?

    4) Does anyone have a list of the phonetic spellings for all the city/unit names? I can not pronounce half of these names, and it's driving my brain crazy. Might be a good update for the mod, to put that somewhere in the information boxes.

    5) Why are the Quarthadastians (sp?) so easy to defeat when playing as Romanii? I know historically they were defeated, but Hannibal took most of Italy first, and in my game he is nowhere to be seen.

Thanks, sorry if these are repeats but I didn't know where to look to find some answers.

    1. Covered Liburnes (only available after getting a Huge City in Italy)
    2. No effect, though buildings of your own culture will eventually lessen the cultural penalty
    3. Nothing you can do save for upgrading the governor's residence
    4. No idea
    5. Because the AI is stupid and cannot take or hold Sicily, nor defend its islands. The Carthaginian AI will not assert its naval supremacy. Conversely, it is also very easy for the player-controlled Carthaginians to annihilate the Romans.

The RV only covers the barracks. It's got nothing to do with the mercs, whose availability is governed by an entirely different file (and the exact same for everybody).
"Let us remember that there are multiple theories of Intelligent Design. I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. --- Proof of the existence of the FSM, if needed, can be found in the recent uptick of global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. Apparently His Pastaness is to be worshipped in full pirate regalia. The decline in worldwide pirate population over the past 200 years directly corresponds with the increase in global temperature. Here is a graph to illustrate the point."

What file is that, and where can I find it?

Also, thanks to both of you for your replies. It helped a lot.

I think it's something like descr_mercenaries in the world/campaign folder, which is a subfolder of data.

    descr_mercenaries.txt

    found in EB/Data/World/Maps/Campaign/Imperial_Campaign/
