They really messed up on the Best Picture nominations, there were a lot of more enjoyable movies they could have placed there. So I was wondering about the thoughts of the .Org's movie-goers. Are the academy awards just a sham or are the nominations fair and unbiased? Did The Dark Knight deserve an Oscar nomination or is it just a comic book movie that has no place in the Oscars? Oh and, Robert Downey Jr for best supporting actor!

The dark knight should be in there for sure, but the oscars have always been amusingly pretentious. Half the fun is waiting for the inevitable award winner who chokes up while talking about how working on his movie really made him feel for the plight of blind/deaf/handicapped people or whoever.

Everyone knows robert downey is a great actor though

ohhh really?...the Oscars are coming again?

let´s see how much I care about the Oscars and other awards...for movies or music

    it´s not looking good.

The best movie of the year is whatever movie you liked more.....for the studios it´s gonna be which one made more money.

the dark knight should have gotten a nomination for best picture. b/c they didnt, i couldnt care less about the awards. its a sham. seriously, how could you not give an award to the film that, IIRC, is the 2nd highest grossing movie of all time?

also, 'the reader", which got horrible reviews, is high up there? what?

The last couple of years they've complained about ratings, but its pretty easy to see why they've been in the crapper. Unless Frost/Nixon turns out to be a blockbuster in the few theatres it will be played at - which it won't - Button is the only grossing movie on the list. Nobody is going to tune in to see whether Slumdog, which was decidedly not brilliant, has a good night.

well...considering that the number 1 grossing movie of all time is that titanic turd I don´t see why being the 2nd should guarantee it an oscar nomination

I quite liked it.... but yeah, they have to balance ratings with quality...

I wanted Wall-E to be nominated for Best Picture (my favourite of the year) but happy enough with the lineup...

The Dark Knight was good, but not as good as Batman Returns, or Benjamin Button\ Slumdog Millionaire but was much better than The Reader, so maybe should have been nominated over that (havn't seen the other 2) - I thought it was about 45mins too long.... and Heath Ledger is a shoe-in for the best supporting actor (competition --> Robert Downey Jr.)

Any list of best movies of 2008 that doesn't include Wall-E lacks credibility for me. But really, who watches the Academy Awards anymore? I can't take three hours of Hollywood congratulating itself.

They probably stuffed that in there due to their false sense of entertainment. Even The Wrestler wasn't nominated, and after seeing it, I doubt The Reader was a better movie.

And I agree that Wall-E should have been nominated for Best Picture, it's an animated masterpiece.

Does anyone really care? Really? I don't. I couldn't care less if Frank Langella or Heath Ledger wins some award or another. I still have to wake up the following morning and carry on with my miserable life.

I would give you a balloon for mentioning KOTOR (one of the best RPG series), but I have none of my own to give to you.
