Thread: Custom battle - romani vs romani?
Fixiwee 18:29 01-18-2009
Well, no, I'm not asking why there are only mercenaries in the custom battle selection. Don't worry.
But what I haven't found searching the forum, is a anweser to if it is possible to play against the CPU who has basicly the same faction. Or at least the same unites.
The reason is simple, I wanna play a decicive battle in the roman civil war, and it would be nice if roman soldiers would fight against roman soldiers. Is there a possibility to swap, let's say epirote units and add roman cohorts to it?

Here is my advice. There is a button that says auto choose on the que up screen before a custom battle for troops. That button gives units and if you can have carthage be romani 2 you can press that button and eventually get romani units.

I tried that but it did not work.

You then can only try to have the romani troops fight the samnites and bruttians and any other italian native that fought the romani. For in italy when Rome was gaining in power the other italian tribes revolted against the romani many times.

That button will never get troops that the faction don't have in the edu file!

You can, however, make a minimod where you have given roman troops to another faction. Although, it wouldn't be savegame compatible.

Sounds like a good suggestion.

That's actually what I am asking for. Just edit something, play the battle and then switch to normal. Savegames wont be a problem since I'd have to use the multiplayer option instead of the actuall campaign.
But how do I do that?

EDU & DMB young paduan..(for multiplayer)

at the bottom of every entry, there is a faction ownership section-just add another faction to it (note: Vanilla names are used in all but one case, so the romani=seleucids.). then, go to the DMB (descr_model_battle), and look up the soldier type listed by the units (should be 3rd or 4th row in the EDU entry). when you get to the DMB sntry, look for textures section, copy it, past it under the origional texture (but over the cas model section), and change seleucids part of the copy==> whatever faction you added. you have to do this, as the game will look for a texture for the faction unit, even if it remains unwritten-at least my computer does that.

I hope that wasn't too complex-any questions, then PM.

and remember, change the EDU backup file in the MP EDU backup folder.

cheers!

That, actually IS save game compatible... I wouldn't worry about that.

Aight. I looked into your instructions and it doesn't seem that easy. Thanks, I will try it when I come back from university today.

I wouldn't be that sure about that.

There is a limit how many units faction can have. So if you add them all the Roman units you must remove some units from them as well. And that would mess up game because you also have to change edb then(you can't recruit a unit that is not listed in edu for that faction).
