Default Coach Fired For Running Up Score

A high school girl's Basketball coach was fired for running up the score one hundred to zero.

The coach of the girls basketball team at the Covenant School has been fired after recently winning a game by a score of 100-0.

Micah Grimes was dismissed by the school on Sunday, the same day he posted a public comment saying he would not apologize for the team’s lopsided win over Dallas Academy on January 13.
Personally, I'm glad the guy was fired. Absolutely no class whatsoever. I realize you want your team to compete, but there needs to be a sense of honor in sports, particularly on the high school level.

EDIT: Even more disgraceful is that the losing school is primarily concerned with aiding students with learning disabilities. Second Link

The game took place Jan. 13, on the road, against The Covenant School. Civello didn't expect his girls to win. He never really does. His girls haven't won a game in his four seasons at the White Rock Lake-area school, renowned for its work with students with a variety of learning problems. In most games, they haven't come close.

It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then, the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.

    Hear the lonesome whiperwill
He sounds too blue to fly
The midnight train is whining low
Im so lonesome I could cry

Ive never seen a night so long
    When time goes crawling by
The moon just went behind a cloud
To hide its face and cry

Did you ever see a robin weep
    When leaves begin to die
That means hes lost the will to live
Im so lonesome I could cry

The silence of a falling star
    Lights up a purple sky
And as I wonder where you are
Im so lonesome I could cry

What was the winning team/coach supposed to do? A coach is fired because his team is too good, can't see the logic in that.

    this doesn´t make any sense.

if the idea is that the losing team couldn´t compete fairly....well...then they shouldn´t be competing in the first place....that is not the fault of the winning team's coach.

Wasn't there also a little league pitcher who was disallowed from his league because he was pitching too well?

    edit: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/0..._n_121346.html

Here's the story. Apparently the other 9 year olds were scared of the 40 mph high heat. Sounds like there was some overzealous sports-parents politics involved.

Whats he supposed to do stop the game if one side keeps scoring or start not counting the winning teams points... ?

Ok, actually having read it now, I agree with every word of Khaan's. This guy was a total dick and it's really nothing like the little leaguer story.

He could instruct his team to allow the shot clock to run out without his team taking a shot. Grinding an obviously over-matched opponent into the hardwood floor shows a lack of integrity, good sportsmanship, and class. He is unfit to be a teacher of children if that's his style.
The league should drop the Dallas Academy to a lower division to better match their skill level.

I look it up. They probably do, the thing is though in these games one or two above average players can really tip the scale. Now maybe not 100 -0 but still

Come to think of it, it's to late for non-distirct but to early for playoffs. Time to investigate!!!!

I appreciate the investigation, Strike, but it's not necessary to the point:

98% of high school athletes are not going to be professional athletes, or even uni players. So what is the point of even having/funding high school sports? Sounds like a money-drain, right?

They are to teach, by practical application, that individual effort matters; that being a contributing part of a team, matters. That being honest, matters. That being personally accountable, matters. That treating your opponents with respect and dignity, matters.

Those lessons can be, and are, taught every day in every high school district in the land. They can be discussed and dissected in the classroom, but can only be put into the sharp relief they deserve, on the playing fields/pitches of sport/pretend war.

Ancient Greeks knew that and honored it. We should, too.

You are wise my friend. However, Sport in Texas often leads to a very competitive feeling. Make no mistake we are very nice people off the court/feild/diamond but on it we are out for blood.

Not that I condone that, some things that I heard and saw during my years as a highschool athlete ranged from the tame to deranged. Granted football is the worst but Texans take these things seriously. One of our few faults.

OK. Here is what my metroplex scources tell me

    1. Covenant (the team that won) only had six players
    2. The week before there was a 55-1 game and a 108-22 game (TAAPS!!!!!!)
    3. The school didn't have a problem until this thing blew up nationally
    4. Dallas academy (losing team) got a "forefit" win, suite seats to a mavericks game and then quit there leauage
    5. Academy hasn't won a game in four years
    6. Both teams are 2A which is the 2nd smallest classifacation in the state

Guys this happens more than you'd think. Just a couple days a go two local Lubbock high school teams in the biggest classification (5A over 2,000 kids) played and one beat the other 109-18

    The reason for this is

    1. The coach was still pressing at 70 or 80 (conflicting reports) to 0
    2. The nice round 100-0 number
    3. The "disabled" thing which is kind of a misnomer

I'm sure some of this has been said but there ya go.
