There was absolutedly no need to run up such a score. A big to the players, the league organisers, and especially the coach.

We need to stop trying to treat disabled people as equal when they are clearly not. Why are a disabled team in the same league as normal schools?

I'm not sure on the specifics of how the league operates, but it's not like the Dallas Academy sucks at sports in general. According to the second article, the two schools' boys teams played shortly afterwards and Dallas won 50-38. But while their school has about 120 boys, they've got only about 20 girls. The school may be assigned to the division it's in based on its boys teams, without consideration taken that its girls teams belong at a different level. That's probably one of the first things that needs to change.

I guess you guy's really don't get barbarianball. There's a shot clock in hoops. When you're up 80 on another team, the normal decent thing to do would be to run the shot clock out each possession which would run the game out. No one's saying they were supposed to coddle the losers.

Don't get me wrong. I've read this part 4 times now. I really, really, really can't understand what a word of it....

And I still haven't got an answer to my first question, what "running up the score" means...

I think basically once your in the opposing teams half you only have a certain amount of time to try and score, after that time i think possession switches back over... just running out a clock sounds dreadfully boring though...

Im unsure on this issue... on the hand is not nice to get slaughtered... on the other hand it would be slightly patronising if the whole team starting using thier left hand for example..

Thatnks for the explanation, now that I think about it, I remember it from school and yes, it does sound boring, also throwing the ball over the heads of the disabled until the clock runs out sounds rather humiliating to me, almost like you're really trying to make fun of them.
"Look, I could score now but I won't because you retards can't get the ball anyway..."
"Woops, you almost had it, hehe."

I think that game has a different name though.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Running_up_the_score

In sports in the United States, "running up the score" occurs when a team continues to play in such a way as to score additional points after the outcome of the game is no longer in question and the team is assured of winning.

    .........

The term and concept are not common elsewhere in the world
Absurd and yet at the same time ridiculous

So seems like an American thing. No wonder we Euro weenies have never heard of such a thing.

There is no shot clock in Texas high school BASKETBALL at any level.

Why? Because it's a game involving a ball, but it's not football*, so obviously it must be one of the inferior "sports" involving a ball, all of which can be lumped together and classed as barbarianball, since, well, they're quite irrelevant and quite frankly barbarian sports, nothing like the esteemed and beautiful game of football... In the words of Bill Shankly:

"Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that."

*I am, of course, referring to the european kind, the one where using your hands is against the rules, hence the name "football, not "foot and hands-ball".
