I wanted to see what clan people consider to be A) the easiest to play and B) the most fun to play.

    I'll start with myself:
    A) Hojo (nice income and no horde in the end)
    B) Takeda (not a moments rest)

    Over to you!
Nope - no sig what so ever.

    A) Uesugi (it was so easy it frustrated me), Hojo
    B) Oda (literally enemies left, right & centre - challenging all the way to almost near end game), Takeda ("I got lotsa horsies...")

Easiest= Shimazu (nobody really bothers you at start), followed by Hojo.

Most fun= Takeda followed by Takeda with Takeda a close third!

Takeda is definitely the hardest IMO, simply because you begin with your Western provinces ripe for conquest by Mori and your Eastern provinces surrounded by Uesugi, Hojo and Imagawa.

Shimazu is easy until the horde appears.

Hojo is probably the easiest especially with such easily defensible provinces and Uesugi's weak starting armies providing some fat juicy targets .

Most fun? I would reckon Shimazu, especially with the added fun of Christianity and Arquebusiers.

    A) I posted about this on the community forum some centuries ago, and, at the time, I considered Oda to be the easiest clan, at least at the start. Quite a contrast with the majority of the replies in this thread, yes? More recently, I've notices that it's very dependent on the difficulty level and your playing style. On Easy and Normal, you can just sit it out as Oda, accumulating Ashigaru hordes and defeating the Ikko-Ikki in detail, and no other clan will bother you (they have other clans to fight). But I guess the Ikko-Ikki are more agressive on Hard and Expert, which makes the Oda start a real pain. So I guess I'll have to vote for the Shimazu, dull as they are.

    B) As can be deduced, I like the Oda. They are very adaptable, having Iga Ninja, Kii Warrior Monks and Owari Ashigaru (also firearms, if you go Christian), so you can fit almost any playing style to them. They also have perpetual two-front war capacity instead of crashing through Japan like a steamroller. Challenge or tranquillity as fits the situation.

easiest: Uesegi (followed by Mori with all his armory provinces)

most fun: Imawaga (starting with ninjas makes it fun to pick off emissaries, split kingdom makes it difficult), but I really like playing Takeda too....

Here is the vote of the Bedfordshire jury.

    Easiest: HOJO: Loads a money
Hardest: IMAGAWA: Everybodies picking on me.
Favourite: SHIMAZU: Real rags to riches stuff and green is my favourite colour.

Did I mention I really like Takeda?

Toughest clan on expert is Imagawa for me. Ninja are nice but a military discount is better.

    Easiest: Hojo
    Hardest: Imagawa

The most fun is Oda, especialy with 120 man units. It's just so great to send off a thousand screaming peasants to their death. Then the next turn do it again.

Easiest - Hojo - mad cheddar!
Funnest - Mori - mad armories + cheap monks = kick ass armies.
Hardest - Mori - surrounded by enemies, no income

    my take,

easiest -- hojo, Uesegi(rich and defendable province, in all difficulty)

hardest -- Imagawa(no money, frigging bonus(ninja) in the beginning is a waster of time, hard to play in all difficulty)

Most fun -- the clan that you struggle to survive and kick some serious as* in the end.
(Recommended clans are: Imagawa, Oda, Mori).

    Well lets see

    Easiest by far was HOJO

    Most Funnest(thats a joke) IMAGAWA

I still haven't finished my imagawa campaign. Its one of the last ones i did. But it is fun to try and keep both empires alive and use your ninja. I am a big fan of the ninja in this game if any of you have read some of my posts on it.

Imagine playing Hojo and NOT knowing Takeda will rush Musashi first or second year with 300-500 cavalry.

    Not the easiest anymore, hmm?

Regarding playing Imagawa, I have completed one campaign on Normal difficulty. In that one I gave up the western provinces and concentrated on the east. It wasn't too bad because I could take Shinano quickly and hold on to it. Also, note that the starting army of Imagawa is all samurai - no yari ashigarus at all.

Now I'm playing Imagawa on Hard difficulty. Not too bad yet either. In fact I feel it's easier than playing Oda on Normal. I held on to my western provinces, but I focused on expanding my eastern ones. At the moment I have one third of Japan (ex-Hojo, Uesugi & Hojo lands). Only myself, Oda and Mori are left. Both Oda & Mori look pretty strong, but no horde yet. The year is around 1544. I have just turned Christian.

But one thing I must say. I don't use ninja's much. Assassinations are too risky. I do train many shinobis though.

    A) Useugi(with such a low cost on archers, who doesn't want to have a shogun shootout!)
    B) Hojo($$$ chi-chin!)
    C) Oda(Who doesn't love to be the center of all attention!)
    D) Shimazu(poor income but easy to expand without have to worry about too much outside interference)

I loved the Takeda best -- but then I memorized "Charge of the Light Brigade" as a child so I was predisposed to the Takeda cavalry tradition. Nothing in STW is more exciting than a sweeping cavalry charge!

I did well enough with Shimazu and Mori but it was disheartening to see the ever growing power of the Hojo in the east.

Imagawa -- my least favorite. Too poor and too few to withstand repeated assaults and faithless allies.

For the rest, no firm opinion. I find playing online much more riveting than any AI opponent.
