    Default King's Council

In 1080 there was a new structure erected near the Basilique de Saint-Denis, just north of Paris. There, in the presence of the every King of France over the past 600 years, King Philippe I Capet has provided a forum for the Lords of France to discuss the affairs of his realm.

Lords of France! The time has come for France to reclaim what is rightfully hers! My brave son Prince Louis has led the initial charge at Gascony, and I am raising additional troops to campaign against Anjou.

Duke Gassou, Duke de Lyon, I suggest that you save your construction for the next season so that you can save enough money to begin building Town Watches. I shall provide you both with 600 florins for this purpose.

Duke Poitevin, I must request that your two units of Spear Militia must accompany me on my campaign. You yourself are welcome to accompany me as well.

Prince Louis, continue with your siege. I am confident of your successor.

My King I have placed the vile English under siege at Caen. Numbers are roughly equal, but I expect their cowardice will keep them in place while we construct our ladders for the assault. None shall escape the place, my word on it.

I also wish to express my appreciate for the gift towards the construction of a Town Watch. If Caen can be quickly taken I may wish to, ahem, negotiate towards construction of a something there instead.

    My King,

I have crossed the channel and placed the English capital, London, under siege. Their King cowers within with a few scraps of spearmen, waiting for us to break down his little gates and carve a path to his head. If you wish to negotiate a settlement of some sort with these dogs now may be the best time.

Unfortunately the Pope has expressed some concern about our ongoing conflict. This is not a matter I have any control over, so I welcome your input.

Lords of France, I have an announcement to make. William the Bastard has agreed to a peace, and our war with his kingdom is now over.

Furthermore, his holiness the Pope has issued a bull demanding that this peace last for at least six turns.

Finally, I am issuing this decree.

    Royal Decree of 1086

Any vassal in the Kingdom of France who starts a war with another faction, without the permission of the King, will lose both the protection that his majesty offers and the claims on his land.

As your loyal vassal I have, of course, abandoned the siege of London and fallen back across the channel. I and my men now hold Bruges under siege.

If I may ask, what were the terms of the peace? Surely if there was a... financial consideration I am due some part as the chief architect of the prime threat to the English homelands?

As the years pass and the Pope is appeased I ask first rights to resume the war as well. The English surely will not rest until they have been forced to bend knee and swear fealty.

Lords of France, I have several announcements.

Firstly, the settlement with the Kingdom of England gave us a boon. In recognition of my vassals who contributed to this war. I have allocated a portion of it as follows.

Prince Louis, Duke Perrin and Duke Raoulet hare to be given 250 florins each. A remaining 250 florins are to be kept by myself.

Secondly, as further reward for his loyal service, Duke Raoulet has been promised ownership of southern Flanders. This is a decree by no less than the King of France, and I expect it to be treated as such.

Thirdly, another noble has come asking to be adopted into the Royal Family by Prince Louis. I shall leave it to him to ponder this request.

Southern Flanders my King? Meaning all the lands south of the port of Bruges, which I have now under siege I presume? Those forests hold little interest to me, and he is welcome to them for my part. The city of Bruges itself will be mine.

(As an OOC matter, why does my avatar have no movement in the current save? I was considering lifting the siege but that isn't possible.)

Duke Perrin, Southern Flanders is the area whose chief city is Bruge. This is opposite Northern Flanders, whose chief city is Antwerp and is currently controlled by the Holy Roman Empire.

OOC: This may be because King Philip moved into Perrin. If so it was not my intent.)

Lords of France, your King has an announcement.

In accordance with my duties to ensure your protection, I will be training regiments of militia to ensure that every city in my Kingdom has it's full complement of militia. I have already dispatched one regiment of Town Militia each to the three cities beyond the Ile de France for this purpose. These soldiers are now under the authority of the Lords of their respective, new homes, all free of charge.

It is up to the Lords of these cities to use these soldiers responsible. I will not replace these soldiers if they are used on offensive campaigns.

My King regrettably I must inform you that I and my men have departed the siege works at Bruges. If the city is to belong to another I cannot ask my men to shed blood taking it's walls. I do not question the valor of your own good guardsmen, but seeing as they are all that remain to contain the garrison I recommend that you instruct Duke Raoulet to reinforce you posthaste.

God grant you victory my King.
