    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7852628.stm

    That's right. All of us.

    Global warming is 'irreversible'

Generating station in Sun Valley, California
Politicians must offset damage from man-made pollution, the report says

A team of environmental researchers in the US has warned many effects of climate change are irreversible.
OK. Now that it’s inevitable I’ll scrap my catalytic converter for the platinum, cut down the trees in my back yard for fun, and take the long way home from work. Enjoy your inevitable demise.

The scientists say the oceans are currently slowing down global warming by absorbing heat, but they will eventually release that heat back into the air.
I expect this to coincide with the octisquid invasion.

You don't understand the plan Vlad. We're going to boil the oceans to kill the octosquids. Thus, not only ending their threat, but we'll be eatin (already cooked!) calimari for years to come. Yum!

    Yes but at what cost!

There is never any "cost". Government has taught us that. Congress will just pass legislation to shift the temperature scale so our temperatures remain "normal". Global warming defeated at the stroke of a pen.

Yes, let's just halt all sorts of pollution immediately so it won't get any worse either.

Don't human beings emit carbon dioxide as part of our biological processes? Wouldn't mass suicide be the only ethical solution to the problem of man-made global warming? I mean after all, that's 5% of total climate change that would halt immediately.... We'll leave it to the polar bears to figure out how to make solar activity stop causing the other 95%.

What ever are you thinking of!

Think of all the methane dead bloated bodies are going to make!

And you can’t dig a hole and pull the dirt in on your self either! Think what you are doing to the soil…

Do you see what a hopeless mess it is now!

don't automatically equate industrial chemical polution with the possibility of CO2 induced AGW, thats as stupid as; "Why do you hate freedom" argument.

No, we should stop all machines now, then kill all CO2 emitting animals and then ourselves, it's the only way to save us!

According to the Sunday Times the possible (and increasingly probable) extinction of bees will get us well before the rising sea levels etc. And maybe they're right?

Bees aren't going extinct...last I heard the story was being blown out of proportion by bee keepers who had been using an illegal weedkiller/fertilizer/whatever chemical beekeepers use.

    Read this.
So in terms of its intended rhetorical association, Unstoppable = Burn Baby Burn. But let’s not confuse Irreversible with Unstoppable. One means no turning back, while the other means no slowing down. They are very different words.
There is also an explanation of why the word Irreversible has been used.

Never fear. The current stimulus package includes provisions to fund beekeepers and fishfarmers

    We're all Dead

True, from the moment of conception, for us all and our ancestors and descendants.

We don't really understand this "life" stuff anyway. Birth, death; we're always in-taking and out-putting, consuming and shedding. Our atoms fly all over the place and interact in ways we don't perceive or understand with everything and everyone around us. And everything else's and everyone else's atoms interact with us, in countless, almost infinite combinations and dynamics.

That we want to move our atom fields around more quickly than we can achieve with our own legs, so we mimic faster moving dinosaurs by sucking up their remains and burning them to make wheels spin that we can ride, seems a quite natural, logical progression. That we haven't yet figured out how to squeeze every last drop of that dinosaur juice efficiently, and so spew the dino-juice leftovers into that number one resource we share: air, is troublesome, but fixable, if we try harder and get smarter. Past history shows that we can. It's just a matter of time and effort.
Be well. Do good. Keep in touch.

Wouldn't sending the prequel movies to other planets be considered an act of war? We don't want to provoke alien civilizations into coming over here to eradicate Jar Jar Binks.
