That is definitely disgusting! But I can’t say it is surprising, or the product of any one ideal.
Any means justifies the ends is pretty universal when it comes to extreme viewpoints…
You find it everywhere.

It is sick on every level, but still not a shock. Others are always trying to think up ways to manipulate others to do their will and accomplish their goals

She is obviously very clever, especially since it worked 80 times.
I do not think it was nice though.

What a disgusting travesty.
It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then, the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.
That woman is a nasty piece of work but her actions are hardly surprising. Shocking but not surprising.
You have to feel for the parents of those dead girls because this woman's testimony will rip open old wounds in the worst possible way. For most if not all of the parents it is no longer a question of accepting the idea that their daughter willingly commiting both suicide & murder but rather a matter of accepting that their daughters were driven to such an end. At least now there will be greater clarity as to the causes and parents can now divert their pain induced rage at a most deserving target.
Hopefully this woman's numerous accomplices will also be brought to justice.
Now let's see how long it takes for the Iraqi legal system to try her and give her the one-way rope ride...

Would you steal bread to feed a starving child? Can something "bad" be done to achieve a greater "good?"
This is a classic instance of justifying an immoral act by asserting that the ultimate motive was of such great benefit as to necessitate a short term evil in the pursuance of that objective.
I think you'll find that her view of things boils down to this issue.
For me, some "means" are so despicable that they cannot be justified by any "end" no matter how noble.

Sorry to piss on everyones bonfire , what with this being a terrible story and all that .
But what in the news story matches the title of this topic?
I'm aware of that, except for the part where I don't know who Ted Bundy was/is, but I had this moment where I felt writing "Oh, despicable!" or "Oh, what a tragedy!" into every second thread kind of becomes repetitive and slowly makes everybody numb to this thing anyway, so I wrote something different. Might sound weird, but sometimes I am weird.

So she 'confessed' to the Iraqi police. What does that tell us? Exactly zilch.Samira Jassam, 51, was arrested by Iraqi police and confessed to recruiting the women and orchestrating dozens of attacks.
I mean for God's sake, the Iraqi police themselves even operate bomb-making factories.
The bloody trouble is we are only alive when we’re half dead trying to get a paragraph right. - Paul Scott
It's a good question and the starting point for an answer is usually "cui bono?"
Al-Qa'eda in Iraq is already on the defensive because its indiscriminate violence and incoherent radicialism has alienated vast swathes of citizens. How useful then, would it be, to have a story like this further illustrating the utter barbarity of the "Caliphate" to which they aspire? True or false, or somewhere in between, such a story helps the government sideline the fanatics from almost all Iraqis. The fact that this woman has been paraded on TV before any actual judicial process has taken place adds some weight to this theory.
The problem of veracity touches on our discussions about torture. When a regime establishes a reputation for "enhanced interrogations" it's judicial system is fundamentally undermined. Every "confession" comes with a health warning and is automatically suspect. Only the people who want to believe anyway embrace the findings. As has been noted, those being tortured will regularly come up with the most lurid fantasies if it will satisfy their tormentors.
Given the depths which these radicalised looneys have previously plumbed, the story may well be true. Given the track record of the Iraqi police, it's probably more likely to be at best, embellished, at worst a stitch-up for political gain.
Since the authorities regularly torture and exclude defence counsel, we have no way of knowing - at least, so far.

when ever i think, "the end justifies the means," i think i can say that the ends are favorable.
so i think that if this is all propaganda then well, the end justifies the means. hope it works.

Much cheaper then giving them a flatscreen that isn't full-HD.
Well, she'll probably go to join Saddam.
BLARGH!
Extremists are fine. Whatever you believe, just keep it to yourself and make sure it only affects you.
DO:
Cannibalism, for example, is not ok. Nor is stealing, raping, murdering, or bombing. However, suicide is acceptable to me, because you clearly don't want to be here consuming the world's resources anyway, and we're overpopulated and hungry and polluting. One less idiot to feed and produce power for.
Self-mutilation, self-immolation, self-worship, whatever your extremist view is, do it to yourself. Starve yourself, go on hunger strikes, form a clan of people who voluntarily live a barbaric society that involves killing one another in a manly fight to the death contest. Whatever... just leave innocent people out of it. Praise whatever god you wish, teach yourself to believe the earth was created by a mouse last tuesday, make a holy book containing the prophecy of Joe the Plumber, I don't care.
Skydive without a parachute, mountain climb without a harness, drink your own urine, whatever your deal is. There's enough room for all of us on this planet to do what we want with our own lives. Go crazy. It makes for interesting reading.
Note: I do not advocate extremism, I advocate moderation in all things, and common sense where that does not apply.
Extremism is self-destructive, but if it can be contained, it is more like a terrible drug addiction rather than the source of all evil, and the people it afflicts end up destroying themselves, so it is no longer a problem for the rest of us.
DO NOT:
Militant extremism is not ok. Militant hypocrisy is not ok. Militant anything is generally not ok. Militancy requires one to use violence to coerce people to accept your viewpoints. Militant middle-of-the-road-ism isn't even ok. You should not use violence and terror in order to make people conform to even a common sense viewpoint.
That is why I do not go to Africa with a machine gun and start killing people in the name of ending female circumcision as a practice forever. NO matter how correct I am, militant spreading of my viewpoint is inherently hypocritical.
Bombing abortion clinics is inherently hypocritical. Carpet bombing a civilian population center in the name of freedom is inherently hypocritical. Using an atomic weapon, chemical weapon, or biological weapon is inherently hypocritical. Teaching jihad or holy wars and crusades is inherently hypocritical. Using violence to spread a creed of peace is inherently hypocritical. Aggressive violence of any kind is inherently hypocritical, because that same standard requires that we use aggressive violence against you.
Militancy and aggressive violence is what is not ok. Extremism is self-destructive, militancy is destructive to others. Both are destructive, but one is far more destructive than the other. Extremist militants are the lowest form of human life. Take the Unabomber, who killed innocent people because he disagreed with the concept of industrialism. Total hypocrite. The muslims who planned 9/11, total hypocrites. The nations who declare war on nations who never attacked them, hypocrites. Bombing the innocent in Iraq because of the innocent people Saddam killed... more hypocrisy.
Hypocrisy is dangerous. Extremism is self-destructive. Militancy is evil. Combine them all, and you get the source of everything that is wrong with the human race.
