    Default Recruiting Generals

Since there is not much left to talk about until something happens, I thought this might be worth a little discussion.

We have heard that Generals (and possibly Admirals) are recruitable. The more you recruit however, the lower the quality.

Perhaps it is the leaders of units that are recruitable, in that we have heard of the possibility of recruiting Napoleon by recruiting a Corsican Artillery unit late in the game.

I hope that it is possible to chose to promote one of those leaders and that it is not a seniority issue.

I know a few names to avoid. Herratio Gates comes to mind…maybe available to both British and American Factions. I’d pass if I were you…

It could be that their traits are random and may take some experimenting to find out.
But it could be that they are portrayed more realistically.

I know there are a few I would love to have just for the name, and I am sure most of you are somewhat the same.

But there may be some new ones available too.

    So!

Sorry pever, you’re a little fleet of foot…where can I find that crow?

I think this would work similiar to recruiting someone into the family in Rome or MTW2. Basically you would start with a general or two.

Then during battles, expansions, etc, other individuals would prove themselves in battle and perhaps be promoted in the moment.

A second method, I would like to see, is military academies. They are rather big in this period, and i'd think they would have generals or at least help increase general's stats.

Like the man said, sometimes discretion is the better part of valor!

I would still like to have that crow working for me…

If you want to hire feathered killing machines may I recommend the Peregrine Falcon. They are the fastest organism in the world, because they can reach speeds of over 200mph (322km/h) when diving.

They hunt by climbing high into the air and then dropping at tremendous speed into flying birds, usually killing them instantly in mid air.

Seeing one of those things screaming towards you out of the blue is enough to make anyone run.

    As for the main topic:

I think ETW has got a lot right by making ministers and generals plentiful. It removes rather a lot of annoying micromanagement trying to get generals into your best cities and armies.

I wonder if we will see officers of different rank, rather than just generic 'general'. Officers could recieve promotions after winning battles. It would be nice for roleplay.

I think we will have unit commanders who can be promoted…by what means we will have to see.

i hope that all units have a named leader, like in shogun and M:TW.

obviously this doesn't suit if you have your general in command of a line infantry unit but perhaps they get promotions as they gain experience and the higher rank they have the greater amount of unis they can command

i mean it would suck pretty badly if your general in command of a full stack took a shot between the eyes right at the start of a battle

Maybe generals can perform a coup d'etat? That would be awesome.

But what would that achieve? If it just made him faction leader, nothing would be different.

Cool store, bro! I want some ham.
    No ham, pepsi.
They make deli slices of frozen pepsi now? Awesome!
You also need to purchase a small freezer for storage of your pepsi.
It runs on batteries. You'll need a few.
Uhh, I guess I won't have pepsi then. Do you have change for a twenty?

Well, it would be a sufficient reward for a general who carved out an empire for king and country that had started with simply 1 region. Or it could be a great way to start a Monarchy out of a Republic.

If I recall right, and i'm not a french historian, I believe that Napolean starts out originally as a Corporal fighting off the French Rebels.

So it would be interesting to see that, and besides someone has to lead the rebels during the revoultions, so why not a famous general.

I'm reasonably certain that Nappy's rise to power will probably be featured prominently in ETW: French Invasion, or whatever they call the Napoleonic expansion.
