Marian reforms mash all those Hastati, Principes, and Triarii into one game-winning entity called the Post-Marian Legionary Cohort.

Yep, Super Market is right. Just set up your Legionary Cohorts into the "quincunx" (checkerboard) fashion and you'll be accurate.

Che Roriniho made a unoffical manual in which you find some suggestions for a post-marian army-setup.
Here is the link to his manual: http://files.filefront.com/v004pdf/;.../fileinfo.html

yup
and how the units is set up is usually in two lines or 3 (depending)
the newest legions would be this
Cohort 4 Cohort 3 Cohort 2 Cohort 1
Veteren Semi vet Semi vet 1st Cohort (highest vet)
Cohort 8 Cohort 7 Cohort 6 Cohort 5
Veterens recruits recruits veterens

this website show differnt formations it shows different formations for different tactics etc
Marcus was right about the checkerboard, they seemed to deploy in checker board but also adapted many other formations to suit the battle
That's a nice site you posted daveoshea
Very interesting indeed. Will implement the strategies in my roman campaign for roleplay uses mostly and also to test them out to efficiency in the rtw engine.
That's a nice site for a very general overview but it isn't very accurate, his numbers are sometimes way off, he lists a Legionary cohort as ~550 men, when it was 480. He list the first cohort as 1100 men, when it was 800. He also shows Triarii as a reserve in a Marian legion, when they were by this time contained within each cohort (every Marian Cohort contains two centuries for Hastati, Princepes and Triarii, or one maniple of each.)
