    Default Iapanes AI verry crever!

I hope I need not-a use fony iapanese akshent every time I come in-a here..

I have Shogun: Total War WE.

I have just wasted two hours playing a Uesugi campaign in Sengoku Jidai.
You were all right about the atmosphere of the first game!
And my concept that the AI handles a simpler situation with skill was correct also!

Surprisingly, I had my first riveting battle with the Imaguwa, involving 100 Yari Samurai and 100 Archers on my part, 200 YS and 100 Archers on theirs.
I lost, but I think the way the units fight in Shogun is far more realistic than any other title!

For the first time I saw one unit split three ways in their haste to attack - and once the melee began, the units did not seem tied together by a magical string.

I am really enjoying both battle and campaign so far.

I am winning, but only slightly - my ally turned arch-enemy the Hojo I pushed back to Musashi, but they (In another unprecedented AI move for me), called an alliance in with MY ally, the Mori, who betrayed me and pinched by exposed back.

Riches are flowing now, but I thought I was doing something wrong to begin with.. I was so poor!

The AI have impressed me - especially in diplomatic affairs, they seem to have foresight now!

I will discuss my appreciations more another time, I am quite tired.

    Verry atmosheric and riving game!

Hi Glen, I`m glad you are enjoying Shogun total war, and no, you are not required to speak with a phoney accent when conversing here

I remember my first campaign was also as the Uesugi and I remember fighting my first battles in Shinano, defending it from the Imagawa.

Anyways, let us know how you progress in your campaign. What difficulty setting are you using?

    I am playing on Normal.

I read the entire first page of this forum as I was installing, and comprehended the idea that the Shimazu always become the greatest AI power.
Yet they have not in my game - the Mori have the monopoly.

I am simply experimenting, and laughing at the illustrations which are entirely new to me.

    You can help me with a question;

What options are there available to one in the throne room, apart from greeting emissaries?
Everytime I click on the old man he speaks the same japanese line, which I don't yet understand, but I prefer hearing the native language to english in any case.

I am using the recommended 1028x768 (I hope that is right.. the one up from 800x600..) resolution, but in this case the picture bloats slightly off the screen, meaning that I cannot see somethings in the throne room that may be my options.

Battles are still fierce, harsh, and very interesting.. Due to their reputation, I have entirely avoided a bridge battle.

Bridge battles can be pretty fun.

In the throne room you have the advisor, he will give you different lines if you keep clicking on him. Supposed to give different advice depending on your situation on the campaign map. The first line is usually "A good general does not raise troops twice, and does not pay for food three times" or something like that...

The map in the throne room will show you who controls which provinces (outlined in faction colours) - something you don't see for distant provinces on the campaign map. While it doesn't show you armies, it gives you some sense as to what is happening on the other end of the map. Also, IIRC, you can click on a province on the throne room map and it will pull up the province detail screen.

Mousing over provinces in the throne room will show you the province name. Left clicking will take you back to the campaign map centred on that province. Right clicking has no function. Apart from the advisor, and the "accept/decline" on the parchments presented by emissaries, nothing else is clickable in the throne room IIRC.

If you want to use the Japanese but also want to understand what is being said. You can check the "subtitles" check box in the audio options menu.

As to the resolution, if you have an LCD monitor, then try setting the monitor's native resolution and see how that goes. For most CRT monitors 1024x768 should be fine.

I just started up also with Uesugi as Glenn did... though I made a dumb mistake. I sided with Hojo and the other people near me (not the Ronin or Oda). After a series of alliances I proceeded to make war on the nearby Ronin (figured they were cut off from their other areas(?) ) and fought a series of bloody battles, loosing 1 to a much smaller army (I think) and winning 2. My first battle had my 439 man army facing about 547 Ronin. I had heights all around my front and headed to the highest peak on my right. As my army slowly began their ascension, the WHOLE Ronin army came over the lip of the middle ridge, almost right on top of me! I quickly ran away and set-up a half-moon formation at the back of a large field, and the AI had no problem coming after me (thank god). After some bloody fighting, I won with 16 men left (my general's unit) killing the last Ronin (5 archers left ). After conquering the Ronin, I got a nice message, the Hojo decided that they like my initial "capitol" (forgot its name), after I moved my main clan leader out to support the thrust against the Ronin . And now I have the largest armies (about 4..ish), the best technology, and the richest (though my bank tells me I have $147 left to spend atm ). But since that little back stab the Hojo, I haven't really decided to move out yet (as the Oda like my newly acquired ex-Ronin territories).

I'm playing on easy as I have never been good on the campaign map But once I figure out how to better manage my campaign map, I should be moving up the length of the hardness

Good luck with the rest of your campaign mate. Uesugi is a very good faction to play as at first as they have easy access to plenty of rich provinces and they can train archers cheaper than everyone else too. :)
