From my friend,Armatus, at TWC. He said it's in the ETW forum at TWC. Don't know if's it true or not though.
I really hope he is lying and it will just be a rick roll somehow...

1v1 is for the MP campaign. Regular MP should still have 4v4.

He is either lying or you've misinterpreted what he's said. I highly doubt they would drop 4 vs 4 format they would have no reason to.

Seconded. I think your source just got a little confused between the campaign and the battles. 1v1 is for the MP campaign. Regular MP should still have 4v4.

After all CA have definitely said that more than two factions can be involved in a Singleplayer battle, so why not Multiplayer?
1 vs 1 limits to battle would kill the enthusiasm for ETW MP faster than a rampaging Panzerphant.

He made it seemed like Normal MP since we were on that topic. Out of my 5 years on TW from MTW/VI to M2TW M8, I had about 10-20 4v4's or so. Not a lot. Mostly 1v1,2v2 and 3v3 games.

I think I've played more 3v4s than 4v4s. Disadvantage is good training.
No 4v4's won't really be that much of a bother, they were too laggy and chaotic. 3v3 is the biggest battle where a facade of order can be maintained...
I disagree, when you play 4v4s competitively they can be incredibly tactical. With pubs, ya the games are awful, even 3v3 and 2v2s.
4v4 is where all the fun is. And with the larger maps in ETW there should even be some proper room for maneuver.

The Clan Wars Competition was very proud to provide 4v4 contests, which it did until Rome came out. Then we had to step down to 3v3s because of the increased transmission overhead. Medieval II was no better, and Kingdoms seemed worse, causing our Chinese players to pull out (may have been increased Olympic security in China causing aditional lag).
I have been active in keeping the CWC going on RTW and MII, but personally just went back to VI mods for the bigger game action. Why?
Because four on four games with dedicated players is as good as it gets!
Even worth playing a few 2v2s and 3v3s, to be there when we got enough people together.
I only hope that Empire 4v4s will be truly playable

Yes, it is. I would let the other 3 in my team to fight the battle and me myself just relax and enjoy the battle Because four on four games with dedicated players is as good as it gets!
