Chapter 12 Orders from Rome
"Quintus, NO!" Lucius yelled at a messenger from Rome."There is no way the Legion is moving today!"
"I have strict orders from Rome! It must move quickly in order to stop the Eporites!"Quintus responded.
"Since when does the senate control the legions' every move? The Legion just marched 3 days in a row to find a good spot to rest for a day or two before ill consider moving them!" Lucius yelled back at the messenger. He was tired of discussing this already, but adding this argument to a hangover didnt help.
"If you do not march the legion, I have orders from Rome to march them myself! And I Will!" Quintus said, his voice squeaking when he said it.
Lucius stopped and looked over the young man. He was probably older than 25, and has probably never seen battle before. He was balding and looked like a lazy politician, not a general. They had been fighting for over an hour now and Lucius had enough. He looked over at Flavius who sat quiet the whole time watching the argument. Flavius nodded.
"Fine, you want the Legion? You want your glory? You want to die like the pig you are? Take the legion! Take it! Take your bodyguards, and every last legionnaire I have and march to where ever Rome tells you! Get out of my site!"
Quintus looked puzzled, and a bit scared but he nodded at Lucius and without saying anything marched out of the tent.
"Stupid boy, there are hundreds of Eporites in those woods." Lucius muttered to himself.
"Don't worry Lucius, there are always more legions in Rome, waiting to be loyal to you. Flavius finally spoke.
"I do not wish to send thousands of men to the slaughter just to make a point, but i guess that's what the senate needs." Lucius said grimly as his gathered his things.
-------------
That day the army marched south under Quintus's command. Lucius and his body guard went north to Dalmatia.
