Thats a lot for Special Forces! Over here in Europe you can get it for less than $70 (unless you are talking in Australian dollars, in which case it would be ... $77.45). It's suprising how much price seems to vary between areas.

Not sure of the conversion rate, I thought it was about 2 EU to every 1 AU.

CA have said that the Special Forces units are only available in Single Player so they do not cause MP gameplay to be unbalanced in favor of those with the Special Forces edition. I'll see if I can find a link.

i would take a stab and say our tax system is so wierd and screwed that we pay more tax on ours :)

also possibly the import costs, cos we have to have ours shipped in from the UK? i would think but i could be wrong :)

No, its simply that all the game companies are used to charging $100 for a new game, as the AUD was 1/2 the USD years ago. $50 for a new game in America, so double that for here. Now that our economy (was) getting stronger, calls went out to reduce the price of games, but they don't want to cut into their profits.

Rule of thumb: Buy from overseas, it will turn out cheaper. We are paying 20-30 dollars more than we should be.

It is the same here. The original prices started as €=$. When the dollar dropped we didn’t need to up it but it got crazy in some respects.

When the pound dropped it got cheap to buy in pounds with the €.

When I preordered if I could have paid in pounds it would only have been about €34 but I couldn’t and the site’s exchange rate was €48. Still cheaper than paying full price in shops here…and there are usually less problems with the English versions of the game than with the others.

Isn't the Special Forces Edition the Collectors Edition? I've only seen the regular edition and the SF edition listed on the various sites, both US and UK.

No it isn't. The Collector's Edition comes with an Art Book aswell. And the really expensive one comes with a compass and hip flask. You have to really dig to find it though.

This is almost like the Halo legendary version. But this time I would purchase it. Although I wish it had a ship model instead. That would be sweet.

I see what you mean, Sir Beane, however I'm reading it just a tad different. On Play.com there is a shot of the items included (subject to change) which shows a book in between the DVDs and the manual. That may be the art book. It is rather confusing, not as bad as all of the Vista versions but still confusing. There appear to be three versions but at this point the Collectors edition isn't widely advertised, although I would think that would change in the next couple of weeks. I can't imagine CA/Sega not offering that version in more places.

Here is what I'm getting out of the information. (Note to all: Do not base your purchases on this info because it is only based on what I have read on the different sites)

    There are 3 versions:
    1) Regular
    a. The core game

    2) Special Forces Edition
    a. The core game
    b. Six special forces units: HMS Victory, Rogers' Rangers, Ottoman Organ Gun, Ghoorkas, Corso Terrestre Guerillas, Bulkeley's Regiment
    c. Campaign map
    d. History Channel Revolution DVD (probably US only)
    e. The Art of Empire: Total War art book

    3) Special Forces Edition (Limited Collectors)
    a. Everything included in the Special Forces Edition
    b. Shipmaster's wooden box
    c. Stainless steel flask
    d. Nautical compass

Certain retailers are offering the special unit downloads (U.S.S. Constitution, Death's Head Hussars and Dahomey Amazons) which can be downloaded and used w/o meeting specific conditions (i.e. at the start of the game). However, all three units are supposed to be available to everyone upon meeting certain conditions in the game. (The thing I'm not sure about here is if that includes the vanilla version or if it starts with the Special Forces edition.)

If anybody finds out something different let me know and I'll edit this to correct it.

I don't think that the Special Forces Edition ships with the art book. I'm basing this assumpion off the following link:
    http://www.sega.co.uk/games/?g=563

The picture there shows that the thing between the manual and the DVD's is related to the Special Forces units. All six are depicted on its cover. If I had to guess I'd say it was the sheet of paper containing the code to unlock them.

Everything else you posted seems 100% correct however.
