Me and my true love (ms. marijuana) spent a lovely afternoon, evening and night together... basically my usual valetines night...

I have learned that the women I've been "with" (married, or girlfriend) expected something on Valentine's Day. A card, at minimum. I've forgotten a few times, and they've gotten a little pouty for a day or two - so I've learned to pay more attention.

Ms. K gets a nice card with her morning coffee, and a pajama-gram later, if the Post Office comes through.
After-Action Report: We don't usually 'do' Valentine's Day stuff other than a card. But this year, I'd won a few bucks on the Superbowl, so had some discretionary funds. Had the usual greeting card sitting by her coffee cup (also a 'funny' one from the cat, to her). "Oh, but I didn't get one for you. I was gonna...". "Don't give it another thought, Sweetie", sez I, "I knows ya luffs me. 'Sides, it's kinda a girlie sorta holiday, right?". "Okay".

Missus K is a dear, gentle soul, automatically given to cheerfulness and compassion. She also has an abiding sense of 'even-ness', developed over years of raising 2 boys, and making sure that each got their own (of anything) in equal measure. So, even though she said "Okay.", I could see the fair-play wheel starting to spin in her adorable li'l head.

I went to work. She had the day off. About 1400 a txt msg arrives: "Home @ 4?". "No, 3 rtes 2day. Hm @ 6", I txt back. Twenty minutes later, another txt msg: "Guess wut UPS dropped off? Jammy-gram!!!". I respond: "LOL.LUV U" .

Cut to 1730. I finished up more quickly than I'd thought at work, and pulled into the driveway at home, only to see my Darlin' rushing toward her little car. "Six O'Clock, you said!" as she backs out and takes off, "Go clean up. I'll be right back." I shower, wondering 'what the...?'. She returns promptly at 1755, bag and bottle in hand.

"Sit", she orders, while laying out

Seafood Portofino & stuffed mushrooms, while uncorking a nice little Chianti. <---Kukri's fav meal.

She'd planned out and timed with precision this whole dinner affair (only to have my work schedule mess it up). She later explained that she'd hoped to meet me at the door with a cold can of beer, wearing the (flimsey) robe I'd got her from PajamaGram, and usher me into dinner.

Heck, she could'a handed me a can of corned beef hash, and I'd have appreciated it just as much.

I sure love that girl. Have no idea what she sees in me; but I'm grateful she hasn't kicked me out yet.

And that was my Valentine's Day, 2009.
Be well. Do good. Keep in touch.

What a lovely story Kukri. Apart from the texting part.

Is it that hard to key out proper words?

LOL. I have fat thumbs and tiny keys on my ancient cellphone. So I used a pen to type 'em out, and resort to cell-speek.

    Thanks.

As someone else with fat thumbs I empathize.

And congrats on the lovely Valentines, I wish the girls I dated knew how to make pasta. I need to move to Jersey.

wow... nice Valentines day account Kukrikhan

I'm in trouble this year - apparently an email-card and a phone call explaining that Valentines Day is actually just a commercialised holiday promoted by enviromentally destructive card making company's (hence the e-card) didn't pass muster

By the gods - I wish I were in Hellas, regardless of female attention!

Am I the only member of the forum who actually forgot there was a Valentine's Day, and it's date, until coming to this thread? My nephew's birthday is the 14th - I forgot Valentine and I forgot him too!

There are some miserable souls lurking this forum.. my my.. I remember the shallow days of Valentine in the High School yard, when I believed it to be a silly game that children grew above eventually.. ha!

If there is a virtuous soul who belittles the consumerism that surrounds these exploited shopping spree holidays, and who will easily present to me a gift in each day, and not on occasion - without falsehood - when this lovely creature of innocence and pretended blindness to the modern craze would exist - she's the wife for me!

    Ha ha ha!
    Do not misunderstand me - I could not ignore the many girls I have known and have refused them friendship and gifts; for indeed I have very chivalrous customs for my own, and have held them since I was a young child;
I mean that unless I run upon a certain lady who harnesses no fickle vices or greed in her spirit, (as I have inevitably found in all others..), I shall not be considering marriage. Or indeed anything other than a firm friendship.

Recently I thought I had discovered such richness of soul in a girl my age.

However, when I was staying at the house of her family for a week, one day she returned from work with a jewelry box which she said a friend had found in an evicted residence.
She and her friend had divided the box up like loot.
I watched her fight playfully and girlishly with her sisters over gold and silver, and they became bitter, like dogs.
A brooch, of carefully carved wood in parts - possibly a valuable heirloom to someone, was cast out in the garbage because it was not fashionable enough.

At that moment I became once more disillusioned and disappointed with my age-group and with yet another girl whom I had focused myself upon. I am confident that I shall not find what I ask of a lady until I am much older.
I hope that I am incorrect.

Surely, a beautiful girl who is sought after by every boy in her school, and charming no doubt in her playfulness.
But she is disloyal, greedy and weak - and I want nothing more than to remain her friend and do what I can to make her a wiser being.
I do not want to give to her flowers on Valentines Day and hope she will do something physical with me.

Invited my cuttie at my place for diner (lasagna and delicious eggs with mayonnaise, everything home made), then we went to a gay bar in downtown.

    Don't even ask.

I didn't have a gf, but yes a girl I like. We went to dance with our friends, but saw her once in the disco. Left the disco, and went to bed. It sucked. Big time. Huge time. She won't even notice that I'm interested in her, yet I stand looking at her like I was under trance for some secs. SHE DOESN'T EVER NOTICE!!!! !!!!

Took my gf to a murder scene from the Zodiac in San Fransisco. She loves the movie and I thought it'd be a great morbid date... and it was...

All us men suffer in equal parts, it's our lot in life, and no man goes without a broken heart or a lost love. Like holding your dog as he takes his last breath and dies in your arms, it's a rite of passage. Unavoidable. And honestly, I can't imagine life without that depth of feeling.-Bierut
