    Default Any Phalanx mod?

sorry for being noob... :( and im new to all of this...

i liked the mod though most of my time were spent reading the texts in the games... :D

but i just want, if i may, have the koinon hellenon hoplites to have phalanx formation...

i liked the overhand though, but personally i don't think it's too realistic (for me) when those

disciplined hoplite mates of mine are like a jungle log jammed frenzied mob when engaged...

and when in a ready position all the spears are held upside... and cluttered (you know what i mean :D)... i was thinking that it was more probable that the men in the back held their spears in an angle and used the spear-butts to dig on the ground to help them push the men in front...

i've tried the mod pack by "L3v" or something like that but the phalanx mod didnt work for me... i CTD'ed at the loading screen of EB... :(

can anyone help me get the phalanx mod? :D

    =========================================================

    P.S.

    for the EB team... :D

we hope here in the Philippines that you guys would be like Blizzard Entertainment... :D

providing patches for their old games (mods) for other players who enjoyed the past works more...

unlike those a**-F-ing, money mongreling cheapskates *Cough!* EA Games *Cough!*

hope you keep patching up EB I even if you are, in time, done with EB II...

This is the Phalanx mod from TWFanatic, which is also in ||Lz3|| Mini Mod Pack. Its savegame compatible.

If you have Barbarian Invasion, I recommend this one.

The minimod pack I find to be, quie frankly, bug-ridden. This one lets you use "shield wall" attribute, which may not be exactly a "phalanx" formation, but close enough.
To settle the deal between Romans and Greeks once and for all... both Italy and Greece are in deep s*** at the moment. Do you really think who had the biggest spear in antiquity makes any difference?

Using 0.2 density for the Hoplite units is the best solution in my opinion. It let the Hoplites stay closer together like a real Phalanx. While at the same time not having the extreme closeness and pike angle with short_pike. And not having these 'blocks' with shieldwall or guard mode, but instead it will be a fluctuating thing, like a Hoplite Phalanx in my view was. Though only little pushing power is missing.

If you go with the radius thing, definitely have the values range from .3 to .2 for more variation.

What would happen if you combined PhalanxMod and smaller radii?

I think 0.2 is to close. I played long time with Hoplitai Haploi on 0.3, Hoplites with swords (like Massaliotai Hoplitai) on 0.25 and Classicals/Elites on 0.24. The result was, that my Thorakitai Hoplitai with 0.24 defeated Pedites Extraordinarii in 1vs1, no other units involved, nearly always. Thats why I think 0.2 is overpowered, 0.3-0.25 is okay but IMO still destroys the balance.

Now I use the EB-Vanilla settings for Hoplites again and let them on guardmode, its true that they are inferior to Phalangitais and Elites, but thats how it should be. They are still able to hold the line quite long when guardmode is on.

The problem with TWFanatics Phalanx mod is, that Hoplites always push through enemy phalanxes and kill the Phalangitais easily (IMO). Hoplitai Haploi can defeat Phalangitai Deuteroi and Classicals even Pezhetairoi when they attacke them from the front.

If anyone knows a new solution for this old problem he is welcome. Guardmode, range, and short_pike have all their limits and problems. And shieldwall is IMO to bugged, hoplites die faster with it then with shieldwall off and only guardmode on.

Pherhaps someone could mod the shieldwall to a more agressive formation, give the units a higher attack or something like that.

Really? Charging Deuteroi with Haploi, even with GMode on, means that I have about a minute to flank them before the Haploi are:
    a. All slaughtered
    b. Rout

The Haploi will break through the phalanxformation of the Phalangitai Deuteroi and start killing them in closecombat, Phalangitai Deuteroi will switch to sword and the phalanxformation will break more and more. If you sent a second unit of Haploi they will finish the Phalnagitai Deuteroi off.
Without TWFanatics mod (no short_pike attribute for Hoplites) the Phalangitai Deuteroi hold the Hoplitai distance and the Hoplitai are not abel to attack them but die slowly.

With the PhalanxMod, I find it very difficult to break through the front of a phalanx except with heavy infantry or barbarian shock troops.

It really depends on preference. As has been previously mentioned, your two main options for phalanx mods are reducing formation density or using short_pike (my mod adds the latter).

I don't think deviant wants either though, he's asking for a mod that gave all hoplites phalanx formation like they have in vanilla. No such mod exists to my knowledge so you'll probably have to add it manually. Remember that there will be a lot of balancing issues if you do this. You can't just give a unit phalanx formation without experiencing alterior effects. Also, if you want underhand animations you'll have to manually edit this in the DMB file. Considering how many units share DMB entries in EB, this is a lot of work.

If you want to give it a shot, visit the Scriptorium for guides on editting these files if you need any assistance. My only advice is to back up your files.

    Hello guys :D

thanks for the help i think ill go for TWF's mod...

i just wish that in the future those hoplites would walk in a way that they wouldn't drag their spears underground showing the spear-butts instead walk like when they're idle when the spear is upright :D

    @ TotalWarFanatic

can i get an in depth instruction on adding your phalanx mod? when i downloaded it the only things in the file is the mp and sp backups...

when i coppied it into my rtw folder (where eb is) and started a custom battle (mp) the hoplites still all the hoplites are still dragging their spears underground and the formation is still the same... please help... :(

    thnx :D

deviant927; the EDU file in those two foders has to be in RTW/EB/Data.
Use the MP one for custom battles, use the one in the SP folder for the campaign (Offcourse back up the original EDU).

    Default AW: Any Phalanx mod?

    1) Download the Mod here: http://files.filefront.com/Phalanx+M.../fileinfo.html
    2) Unpack it with WinRAR
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    3) Copy the freshly unpacked EB folder into the folder you have installed EB into (for exampel "C:\ProgramFiles\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War")
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    4) Overwrite the existing files
    5) Play EB with TWFanatics Phalanx mod

BTW: Have you installed the EBTrivialScript? If you have there should be no problem.

At TWFanatic: I hope you are not angry with me, because I answered a question which was for you.

the spears dragging while marching is a result of the animation being used that allows for overhand spears. its purely visual and has no effect in combat

That might be but not all Hoplites have it, some have the normal lenght spears. Little details like that really ruins it a bit.

Yep. All Hoplites with a secondary weapon (sword) use the "old" EB animation. That are for example Massaliotai Hoplitai or Baktrion Agema. One of the reasons why I use the "old" animations, I don't like it if they look differently and I prefer the EB spearmodels (I know that the one, which is used in TWFanatics' mod, is hardcoded and can not be changed).

    Ceterum censeo Romam esse delendam

Edit: Oh you meant the spearlenght difference in vanilla EB, got you wrong. But it would be nice if Classicals, Haploi and Spartans would use the Epilektoi spearmodel. Don't now how much work it would be to chnage all the models.

Yes, but not all of them have the same spear lenght which can get very annoying. Just compare the Epileptikoi Hoplitai with the Hoplitai Haploi and you'll notice a difference in lenght.

Some have way to long spears, having 3 spear rows sticking out of the front line and with spears sticking into the ground.

For the Syracusian Hoplites having those long spears may be Historical but for the others it isn't, and if it is then its weird that not all Hoplites have it.

Epileptikoi Hoplitai? Are they the ones who scare the enemy with seizures?

And the PhalanxMod actually shrinks hoplite spears.

i believe that the team mentioned at some point that spear lengths were supposed to have been reduced but for one reason or another, it was never done
