Thread: CTD after any played battle?

Default CTD after any played battle?

After any battle I play on the battlemap (which doesn't happen during my turn) I get a CTD. Very annoying, because the battles I play are important ones. I'm forced to make do with auto_wins, and that's too much casualties.
I didn't get that before (when I was busy destroying Hayasdan) under the exact same circumstances (not my turn, enemy army completely annihilated).

I also don't seem to get that show_err window even though the shortcut contains it.

Any suggestions? It was working fine before, so it can't be the install? Are there any temporary files I could clean up and how?

EDIT: it sounds like the thing in Bovi's thread. It's wierd that it only started happening later in the game. And where do I get the corrected_regions.tga?

Have you installed the fixes? Missing sprites may cause battle CTD's.

After playing battles wait 30 seconds or so before returning to Campaign Map. RTW memory leak is infamous.

And take a look at this nice little sticky thread https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=103681
There might be something useful there if those two things don't help.

Do you have an ati card with the new catalyst 9.1 drivers installed? they seemed to cause my game to do what your describing.

the corrected_regions.tga is in C:\Games\Rome - Total War\EB\Data\world\maps\base its call regions_safe.tga (actually not sure about this last bit so just ignore.)

I can advise you to disable autosave also it is a known issue of RTW engine gives memory leaks, especially battles after battle in turn end, if you wait 15- 30 sec it can be good. Heroic Victories also may CTD for the same reason so you can enlarge your waiting time.

P.S. in every 2 or 3 hours save and exit then start EB again for memory problems, also many claims Alex.exe has less CTDs..

Mediolanicus: I can't use the corrected_regions fix thing because I can't alt-tab out of the game without it crashing (this must be a Vista bug), so I'm left with the waiting fix.

    bobbin: No, I've got a GTX280.

Atraphoenix: Alex.exe? It's the Alexander expansion? I didn't even know you could run it from BI.exe!

check this submods for how EB works with alex.exe.

I advice the minimod pack of LZ3 his pack automatically attaches files with setup.

    It uses alex.exe not BI.exe.

    Hello everyone,

I experienced the very same problem: CTDs after every - or almost ervery battle I played manually.
In my case the problem stopped completely (had no CTD since) after changing the preferences concerning "Music" in the general options menu. I just changed from "Miles2D" to "Direct3D-Hardware support". I read about that somewhere here on the fora and thought it might fit in here as a solution.

Could be a placebo though - I only played some hours yesterday after changing that. Anyways, it feels good right now to have the stability back...
