Simple question... Have you activated the script each time you play the game?

Listen to your advisor. All vanilla advice has been removed so every time your advisor pops up he has something important to say (how can you ignore the guy anyway, he will pop up constantly unitl you activate the script...).

Without the script you're not playing anything close to EB.
You will need to restart your campaign though... since turning on the script after playing so many turns without will make things go a bit crazy...

Every time you start a new game or load a saved game you must activate the script.

You do this by clicking on one of your towns, then clicking on the advisor, and finally the "show me how" button. This will activate the script.

If you have played the game for a great period of time without the script on, most likely your campaign is "broken" and you should start over from the beginning.

I did the same thing the first time I played EB. Thankfully I wasn't as far along in the campaign.

wow how can someone dont know about the script. The advisor pops up alot and you get several explanations before starting the game. I only dont activate him when I can't (when loading a save which was during an end turn battle)

    Really, you kinda messed up

What does the script activate though? I know the season cycle and probably the rebel city diplomacy system also the reforms of course but anything else? traits?

I'm not trying to be rude but I'm just surprised that you didn't even know about the script...

Well, I know I don't pay much attention to the advisor except in EB.

"Charging spearmen from the front with your cavalry is a bad idea."
"I hope you're not thinking of charging any spearmen with that unit of cavalry you just selected!"
"Don't you dare charge those cavalry into that block of spearmen!"
"GOD HELP ME I will STRIKE you if you charge those spearmen with your cavalry!"

    etc.

I'm too surprised that there are still people who don't activate the script in EB! I mean, it's right on top of the faction description when you choose the factions! There is also a 'loading screen quote' that reminds you to do it!
And there is advisor always popping up when you start the save! And I think he says it with BIG letters "Activate EBBS-script"!

Does this look like I listen to the advisor's Advice?

I ALWAYS have advice turned off, so if it still pops up it can only mean that the script has to be activated or something important is happening/about to happen. And I automatically click a city (so the advisor pops up) everytime I load a game.

Anyway, I think Hidden got his answer to his problem, a little too late in his campaign perhaps

Hey Fulvius, what happened to The One That Got Away? Leaving a lone survivor to tell his lord? [evil laughter]

Ibn-Khaldun: I know that I once loaded a game where I'd saved just before hitting end turn (I hate relying on autosaves, they miss reports and scripted events) and forgot to activate the script as I didn't click on a city. It can happen, I guess, but once you've forgotten once it's not likely you'll forget again!

The two big things that the script activates is the financial assistance script and the AI government placement script. Without these two things, your game is almost broken. Without the financial script, the AI will go broke in the first turn and never recover. Without the goverment placement, the AI won't have governments placed where they should. (They will be able to build governments, but not the governments they are supposed to build, only what you can build, even if it is there homeland. It will take them years to build these incorrect governments, if at all, and will thus be unable to recruit the units they are supposed to in any conquered region.)

The script also activates the four turns per year, the reforms, misssions, AI city interactions (like Karthage declaring war on Roma when Roma enters Sikilia), and a few traiting deals.

Thank you, that first part was something I did not know. Wow the game should be really easy then (and also no fun to play).

i have been pondering this. obviously one reason why people wouldn't click it is through habit of avoiding the annoying advisor in vanilla. that's one possible reason. but that relies on determined avoidance of various notes saying "activate the script" and clicking away the advisor practically every turn and every time the game is loaded - hard work.

the second reason i came upon was this: perhaps some people, for whom english is not their first language, ignore reading the campaign descriptions and simply ignore the advisor because they struggle to understand the english there. that way, they might avoid listening to him ever, not realising how important it is, not through studied ignorance, but simply because they don't understand...might that be a cause?

but wait...is eb in other languages apart from english? i must confess i don't know...

You forgot the EB 1.2 license agreement. Which really isn't very long at all, about 5-8 sentences in total.

Well, I don't have EB 1.2 so I have no idea what you have it there!

Also, people have the habit not to read those License agreements!

I don't think so. I can't imagine who would have enough time and patience to rewrite all the EB texts to another language!

But you might be right about non english speakers just not understanding why that advisor pops up every time they start their game.

I like the english version. Due to the fact that I have the German version of RTW and the english version of EB, makes a funny mix of those two languages ingame. F.e. my General holds his speech in German, but the units are named and declared in english. But the information about their morale is in German again *G*

I think my English has very much improved since I play EB. And this while having fun.

    Thank you EB Team!

i suppose the added difficulty for a non-english speaker is that this main forum is in english also...so if you're struggling with the english of the game, there isn't that much help here...unless you polish up your english. grrr! for the non-english speakers.

What if you forget to activate the script during a turn? I haven't really noticed my enemy running out of money (still creating big armies and unless mercs disappear by themselves, he's hiring them). Not only that but I haven't seen too many other quirks.

The EB furies will kill you with their poisoned tears and - even worse - uninstall EB from your harddrive, if you forget to activate the script.

If you forget to activate the script for a turn or two, nothing horrible should happen. If you don't run if for a couple years, you may be in trouble. The script is really necessary, not just to play EB with the 'full experience' but to play it at all.

hey i got a unusual question. I never had Augustan reforms, and i decided to cheat to get them. I gave one of my generals the High ambitions trait. However as soon as he becomes Augustus, and the next turn passes, the games CTD's. Right now its somewhere like 160s BC.
