I tried starting a new pacifist campaign, im just building wealth.

ignore the war with the Mughals, I landed some troops and it was just easier to declare war.

I have three protectorates. The inuit nations, the plains nations and the Plebeu Nations. I think thats how you spell it.

My first big battle so far.. The invasion of India in 1724 by the Dutch, unfortunately the invasion wasn't a succes I overestimated the manpower of the Indians. I got beaten and annihilated .. (My general and small group around 80 made it out) There goes my expensive army that was a pain to finance..

Edit: 2 years later i attack again, this time another region.. The City assault was a costly one.. and my heart sank when I saw another Full stack of those (red faction) indians coming.. Jurgen Verbeek (my general) was trapped.. I had no choice but to fight! And so I did! and it was a complete mess! Grapeshots from my cannons flying trough the streets, Cannon balls flying over the heads of my soldiers, Hard Melee's, burning buildings etc.. Here some screens of the battle:

Not a very exciting screenshot but it has a story to go with it. I was playing GB, fighting against the pirates. I had extinguished most of their navies and now I wanted to remove them from the picture totally. The first island I took was easy enough, they had only pirate mobs and I outnumbered them. The second island, just off Brazil, was not so easy.

I underestimated their army. I defeated their buccaneers on the field but at a heavy cost. From a force of some 600, I had 289 left. Two units of Line Infantry, one unit of Colonial Militia, and a 12lber. All were quite ragged, with the arty having ONE cannon and five men. I was in trouble when I tried to siege them. I didn't have time to rebuild my forces, I needed my navy elsewhere, and they'd just recruit more of those darn buccaneers.

So I just plunged hip-deep into the smelly stuff. Pirates mobs, 840 strong, against my guys. The line infantry had two chevrons, the militia one. The arty was useless but it was my general... so I deployed it close to the enemy and had the infantry far out on the flanks. I was betting everything that the AI would concentrate on killing me general. It was a hail mary tactic... and it worked. They sent a unit or two against my infantry, while concentrating on the arty. My general bravely held the line, getting off one nasty blast of cannister shot before being viciously run down.

His sacrifice was not in vain, for my infantry had outpaced the pirates and marched straight into the center of town. The largest unit of LI and the militia went into the town hall, securing the area. The smaller unit piled into a house right nearby, between the pirates and the town hall. The mob quickly surrounded the house, blasting it from every side but taking fire all the while. The interlocking fire was slowly whittling them down. Then they did what I hoped they wouldn't do: charge. Unit after unit piled into that little house, trying to take down a lone unit of LI. By this point, however, the unit had three chevrons. They also had socket bayonets, which the enemy lacked.

The fighting seemed to go on forever. The infantry firmly held their ground, firing through the windows as the line held. They wavered for a moment and then the first enemy unit broke ranks. Heartened, the infantry continued to bayonet pirate after pirate as their ranks thinned. There, on soil far from Britannia's warm... well, wet and muggy embrace, they gave everything for crown and country. This left the pirates with a bare four units. Two broke themselves on the town hall dying to ball and bayonet with ease. However, their cunning general held back out of range with another unit, knowing that soon time would force me to withdraw into the wilds, to certain defeat.

Bugger that! The charge was sounded and out poured professional soldier and citizen-warrior alike, giving one quick volley before they smashed into the general. He died in the initial shock and the dogs retreated. I was left with 72 of the bravest, toughest SOBs in the Empire. The cost was high, some 500 men, but piracy would no longer threaten the homeland. After a long rest, the men were transported back to England as they were. They sat as Palace Guards, never replenished beyond those who survived. Who would be fit to join them?
Due to the ailing economy, this space has been foreclosed.

By around 1800 in the RTI campaign I was getting really old generals and admirals whenever I promoted one, like this guy, who died after only two years! (so not great value for money :P)

    My glorious defeat

    The last stand

So I landed an army on Tripoli and took the capitol quite easily. After a few turns I decided to send a quarter of my army to Tunis which I mistakenly thought was undefended since the previous turns the Barbary Pirates would send rag-tag units of no more than 250 towards Tripoli.

So I decided to recruit a new general and send him off with two cannons, one unit of long rifle men, and some other units to take Tunis. So I clicked end turn and on the Pirates turn they sent an almost full stack of soldiers to intercept my army. I knew I was heavly outnumbered but I decided to play on rather than retreat.

At the start of the map I was able to position my army and arty behind a wall which was behind another wall. To my right was a fence and to the left open ground. I set my arty up in the middle with my marines to the left and right. I also sent my riflemen to the right and built stakes to protect my flank. Lastly I dismounted my dragoons and decided to send them to the right which sooned turned into a game ending mistake IMO.

My arty started their fire into their lines and when they finally reached the first wall and began to climb over it, I unleashed a deadly volley and then provided continuous fire to the enemy trying to approach my guns. I manged to route two-three of their units this way, once they were close I switched to cannister for the duration of the battle. The enemy then concentrated their main attack to my weak right while sending a token force to the left and a few units up the middle. I think had I kept my dragoons behind my guns they could of lasted a little longer as they were eventually over run. I had my cav unit support the melee going on to the left flank and eventually my right flank once the enemy broke through. I tried to keep as many units fireing and avoiding hand to hand combat but the Pirates just swarmed me and I had to commit almost all my units at one point. In the end I only had one unit left who I was able to deploy behind the melee brawl and fire some lead into them before getting over run and eventually retreating.

My men fought bravely to the end!

The Royal Navy appearing from the fog

This pirate fleet, nearly a full stack (forgot to count , but it were 16 or 17 ships at least) had been blockading my port in Jamaica for several turns, blocking nearly all my trade from NA. So, I decided to sent my European fleet over to take care of it, as I had no warships in the area. (As soon as my fleet arrived in NA however, Spain, Prussia and Sweden decided it would be a good time to start blockading all the ports in my home region ).
The pirate fleet consisted mainly of Galleons and Race-built Galleons, with a few sloops and Fluyts.

After firing a few volleys, the battle quickly became a mess, with both fleets comp-letely intermingled. In the end, all pirate ships were sunk or surrendered, without losses on my side

Regiment von Riedesel goes toe-to-toe with the American-Dutch Rebels at the Battle of Williamsburg. The British under McDowell barely scraped a victory but the battle ended the American rebelion.

This screenshot shows the 'blood and smoke' mod to good effect, this was only after about three rounds of musketry.
