    My glorious defeat

    The last stand

So I landed an army on Tripoli and took the capitol quite easily. After a few turns I decided to send a quarter of my army to Tunis which I mistakenly thought was undefended since the previous turns the Barbary Pirates would send rag-tag units of no more than 250 towards Tripoli.

So I decided to recruit a new general and send him off with two cannons, one unit of long rifle men, and some other units to take Tunis. So I clicked end turn and on the Pirates turn they sent an almost full stack of soldiers to intercept my army. I knew I was heavly outnumbered but I decided to play on rather than retreat.

At the start of the map I was able to position my army and arty behind a wall which was behind another wall. To my right was a fence and to the left open ground. I set my arty up in the middle with my marines to the left and right. I also sent my riflemen to the right and built stakes to protect my flank. Lastly I dismounted my dragoons and decided to send them to the right which sooned turned into a game ending mistake IMO.

My arty started their fire into their lines and when they finally reached the first wall and began to climb over it, I unleashed a deadly volley and then provided continuous fire to the enemy trying to approach my guns. I manged to route two-three of their units this way, once they were close I switched to cannister for the duration of the battle. The enemy then concentrated their main attack to my weak right while sending a token force to the left and a few units up the middle. I think had I kept my dragoons behind my guns they could of lasted a little longer as they were eventually over run. I had my cav unit support the melee going on to the left flank and eventually my right flank once the enemy broke through. I tried to keep as many units fireing and avoiding hand to hand combat but the Pirates just swarmed me and I had to commit almost all my units at one point. In the end I only had one unit left who I was able to deploy behind the melee brawl and fire some lead into them before getting over run and eventually retreating.

My men fought bravely to the end!
