Thread: Murus Dacicus - A More Accurate Representation.

Default Murus Dacicus - A More Accurate Representation.

I would first like to say that it's great that the barbarian factions have stone walls, but I'm a little concerned about the appearance of the Dacian walls. Currently the Dacian wall looks a lot like the Celtic oppidum but that seems very inaccurate. The Dacian walls were much more advanced and built with far greater precision. That is why I would suggest changing the appearance of the stone walls for the Dacians (if possible) to something more appropriate, with sharply-cut stone of uniform dimensions.
Here are some images of the murus dacicus to give you an idea of how they looked like:
    exterior

    exterior

internal structure with soft core and cross-linking wooden beams

As can be seen Dacian (and Thracian) walls looked more similar to Hellenistic architecture than the Celtic oppidum. Is it possible to change the appearance of the walls (or even the texture) for the Dacians so that it looks more like the actual murus dacicus?

I think the hardcoded culture limit prevents something like this from being done....

It'd be pretty neat if it could though.

That's what I was thinking too. If it is hard-coded so that all barbarian factions have the same wall textures then maybe they can make a "tier 4" wall for the Dacians only to upgrade the oppidum to a murus dacicus?
    Just a suggestion.

I think you can have unique wall buildings, although I don't think they can be upgraded, the 'Rise of Persia' mod has unique walls for Babylon.

The walls you are showing were built after the end date of EB. And yeah, there is hardcoding that allows for each culture group to only have one texture. The walls are also hardcoded to size and shape, so a fourth tiered wall would have to be the same size and similar shape to all other "large walls". Finding someone to who knows how and is willing to do the work to make wall textures is very difficult and EB is lucky to have one new wall. Since the walls were not quite right for Getai, there was indecision in the team wether they should get Keltic walls or just have wooden walls.

The walls at Sarmizegetusa may have been built after the end date, but most of the Dacian fortress walls (like those at Blidaru) were built during the reign of Burebista or earlier, which is not after the end date.

Anyway, some stone wall is better than none at all. I guess if it can't be done it can't be done.
