What is Special Forces Edition?
What are Pre-Order Units?
I am confused with all these information.
Please enlighten me.

So if i want to have ALL the special units, i will have to buy 3 pre-order standard games from 3 retailers and 1 Special Forces edition?
I got a feeling that a compiled edition will all the special units will be introduced some time later.......
Haxorsist 11:35 02-25-2009
You will probably be able to purchase the other units seperately off Steam after the game is released.
Liberator 14:03 02-25-2009
Oh no I ordered at Amazon, but I would strongly prefer the Death’s Head Hussars

I would have liked them but sadly Game.co.uk decided to charge more for the game than Amazon or Play.com.

Indeed, why should we have to effectively pay $170 to legally get 9 extra units? STEAM better allow us to download them later at a less exorbitant price.

Without it sounding like sour grapes, this concept is certainly a "marketeers" dream.
Eventually I hope they hand them out free after the initial money is made off those that want them prior to that point in time. Having a full "Order of Battle" is quite important IMO.
Fisherking 15:19 03-04-2009
That was asked in yesterdays Q & A by pevergreen.
They said it was a possibility down the road, but obviously, not yet.

More from game??
I ordered mine from game for £34.99 and was able to use some reward points to bring that down to £29.99 Play are charging £34.99 for theirs too so, why is it more expensive?

It certainly makes no sense right now
Fisherking, that I get...but eventually it must be released. Not having certain units made available is a major tactical issue and can even impact strategic levels of play.
Thanks for referencing
pev's Q&A by the way.
AussieGiant 15:37 03-04-2009
I'm not sure what all the fuss is about regarding price.
I order the Special Forces edition for 30 quid on Amazon...the standard version was even cheaper.
pevergreen 16:24 03-04-2009
You dont know what the fuss is about?
Special forces: $110.
$10 off for prepaid, $20 Gift card. I payed $80. Thats $40 quid with $15 quid off.
AussieGiant 17:36 03-04-2009
jees pev, where are you purchasing this thing?
Maleficus 19:56 03-04-2009
I got my SFE from Game, but instore, not online. Do I still get the Death's Head Hussars?
If so, how do I get them?
And what are they?
Bah, you should have gone independent retailers! I went for Chips, my local game shop and picked up E:TW, special forces for a sweet £32.99.
pevergreen is getting the collectors edition.
pevergreen 03:57 03-05-2009
Incorrect, I purchased Special Forces. Collectors is $130. Why is it so much?
Welcome to the normal game price in Australia.
Not sure if my codes worked or not. I put them into steam and it said it was done, however, on properties of Empire: Total War game, there is no DLC tab to see.
pevergreen 04:34 03-05-2009
Go into the custom battle and see if you can spot one of the units.

Not so much an Australia problem as an EB Games rip off problem. JB-Hifi are selling it for $79/$89 standard/special forces compared to EB's $99/$109.
I bought the special forces edition from JB and it had a card for the USS Constitution with it, so I guess they hadn't sold all their pre-order shipment.
So basically, don't buy new games from EB unless you get them to price match a proper price.
I can't find any of my special units in the custom battles (I have put the codes in), so NFI what the deal is there.
pevergreen 05:41 03-05-2009
oh ($&^ off. theres a JB across from the EB.
BAAAW.
Murmandamus 05:44 03-05-2009
Yeah, my local JB and EB are next door to each other. I always check both stores before buying and I haven't bought a new title from EB for a couple years. They're always $10-20 more.
pevergreen 05:45 03-05-2009
Ah well.
Also, is your name from Feist?
Murmandamus 05:49 03-05-2009
lol, yep
pevergreen 05:51 03-05-2009
New book out a few days ago!
YAYAYAYAY.
AussieGiant 10:40 03-05-2009
well
pev, games have been around 80 to 100 AUD since about 2000 so there is no change there. I remember the prices well.
pevergreen 10:45 03-05-2009
Yeah. Oh well.
Friend also got his from JB, the one I could have. He got the constitution as well. Cheaper than me as well. BAH.
This is what I get for being a loyal EB customer and never really going into JB.
Crispypaul 14:43 03-05-2009
I was thinking about just getting the standard discount - however thehut.com (a UK online retailer) had a voucher promotion so the Special Forces edition was less than £25. At least I get a big map to look at

I'm not too excited about the Amazons unit, but back on February 19th, when I pre-ordered the game from Amazon, they'd bumped the price down to $39.99 and I saved some money going with them, the price I payed for the game plus shipping now matches the price of the game by itself. Saving money was worth more to me than having a unit I'd probably never use (but might like) from another retailer.
