    Default USB memory

Color me stupid, but I coulda swore I read a few months back that USB memory was being developed so you could use it in your laptop without having to pop the lid.

My lap has a little cartridge for, I'm assuming, two sticks of laptop memory, but it would be nice to stack on top of that, so I'm holding off on any purchases of any kind until I find out about this USB business. My google turned up nil.

Eh? Wazzat? Is this what you're talking about? If yes then your laptop will have 1 or more USB slots, I think you mentioned that already.

USB keys are wonderful things to have if you need them, some come with built-in encryption mechanisms for securing your pr0n data. 8gb flash drives currently run $15-20 or so, you can pick them up online or at BestBuy, Walmart, Target, etc etc... Hell you can practically get them at the corner stores anymore.

Maybe you're possibly referring to something like Readyboost?

Regardless, Ifeel comfortable in saying that USB memory is no replacement for standard RAM when it comes to performance.
