I think for me, I'd probably give up everything but a city..i'd just rather lose it in battle then give it up..even if it cost me.

I would give up techs and money but never a city. Only if I could get something really good back for that city would i consider trading it, like military techs or an alliance.

Still I'd rather give up a few provinces in the Colonies before any of my main euro cities.

That's the reason I'm partially tempted to capture something in India or North America, not cause I want to stay there, but just so I have a bargaining chip later down the line.

Good point, colonies might provide that ace in the hole when you are in desperate need of an alliance, or new techs. The Prussian Report has me very anxious about ETW, especially with all the diplomatic manoeuvrings that is seemingly to be had!

I believe territory is probably the most valuable commodity to be had, and I think the AI thinks that way too. Your plan could very well be sound, Polemists!

Where is the option "Your body"?

Aren't there factions with only one city on Europe? Colonies would have to be the main territory trade things.

I sometimes take cities specifically so I can trade them in for better ones, or use them to get a really good alliance or trade deal. Just take somehwere you don't want or need and then use it as a big shiny bargaining chip .
