I love beer, It is the single greatest human achievement.

I'll admit my palette is very American. Shiner (minus there light), Carona, Bud, Lone Star, and Keystone

However I still love the stuff.

Anyone in agreement?

i love it, but i can only consume it a little, since by law i cannot drink and i can only drink for rituals (thank god for the sabbath!) and around my parents, who dont want me to have a lot.

I’m sorry but if you want good beer you’re going to have to get a good Bavarian Beer…a real one.

Right now it is Lent and the time of good strong beer. Double and Triple Bock Beers. They are a meal in a drink.

Heck, here they have more types of beer than any place else has brands. And no additives!

I don’t even think it is legal here to sell some of the polluted crap that passes for beer in some other places.

Our little local store must have 50 or 60 brands and those are just the local ones…Then there are the special ones that are hard to get…

Most of that other stuff is a waste of good hops!

Many of my friends can't understand why I like Guinness. They aren't believers, they haven't seen the light yet and haven't learnt to appreciate the joy of an extra cold Guinness particularly when it's on draft.

I've had Murphy's, and it's good stuff. Don't forget I live in Wisconsin, a land of beer, with little breweries everywhere. That's not to mention the great stuff coming out of Chicago with Goose Island beer and all of that.

But when I really, really need a beer, I always come back to my true love.

Murphy's is 'ok', though Beamish is preferable to Murphy's and Guinness IMHO. The only decent Guinness is the stuff actually brewed in Dublin. The British stuff has the consistency of ditch water - though all Guinness has quite a mass produced flavour, with a metallic after taste and a free headache.

The problem with Irish beverages as a whole at the moment is that they've been going through a tacky spin offs marketing phase. There are several different versions of Bailey's, which in my opinion has cheapened it's image even further and there are a few versions of Guinness such as "Extra Cold" and of Beamish (Beamish Red).

Personally I would prefer a common run of the mill bottled English Ale (i.e. Fuller's, Badger, Wychwood etc) to some of the slop that is passed off as stout these days.

Bud, Miller, Coors, PBR are all standbys. Sam Adams and Bass Ale are good too. Colt 45 is vastly under appreciated. They used to market it to country clubs! Smooth and creamy, yum.

I agree, can only get it in cans here, which isn't the same nor as good.

Beer? Heh, whatever I can get my grubby fingers on. If I have money I'll buy Peroni, Bavaria, Sol Cervesa. But, mostly I don't and Aussie beer ain't the best, so I stick to Cooper's Pale Ale or Toohey's Pils mixed with whiskey.

One of my best lads is from Dublin. I liked the way he said that he loves Austria since it has one of the best beers in the world and all those people liking Guinness are just fakers.
So I went out and visited him in Dublin and, yeah he was right. Guinness sucks, Austrian beer is awesome. I still hate Austria as a country though.

I'm actually a german wheatbeer (weizenbier) drinker; nothing beats a german Franziskaner - period; but austria has some damn good beer. Wieselburger, Stiegl, Muraurer, and so on. Hell yes!

As far as I am concerned with american beer, let me quote the Pythons: "American beer is like sex on a canoe - close to water."

PS: I wrote this post under the influence of 3 fine Erdinger beer, so don't blame me for posting weird stuff.

I like beer but have never been able to drink a lot of it because I feel like a zeppelin after a few, and prefer not to have to run to the restroom every 20 minutes.

I usually enjoy a beer after a shot or two. Since my spirit of choice is usually tequila (not Cuervo, *shivers*), I will most often drink a Mexican beer--preferably Dos Equis if it's available, Corona with lime if not (arguably no longer a true Mexican beer, but I was drinking it long before it became popular and old habits die hard).

If I drink beer by itself, it's usually Guinness. A good part of my heritage is Irish, and it's a hearty, flavorful brew. I'll also drink it on the occasions that I decide to drink whiskey instead of tequila.

I have never liked most American beer, nor do I favor Asian varieties. Sam Adams and Sapporo are exceptions. Canada puts out some good beer, and of course, Europe has a wide variety of very fine beer. I can take or leave most Australian varieties.

I don't drink much of anything nowadays though. Just haven't been in the mood.

Canadian beer is water, and american beer is watered piss.

And I'm not even overreacting. I've tried any kind of Canadian beer available in Ontario (because honestly, beer is the cheapest way to get drunk, if you can afford to go to the bathroom every 5 minutes later in the night), and believe me, I tried hard to think "okay, this one isn't that bad".

8 months later, I still long for Belgium, Irish or German beer.

I wondered that too when I lived there. And then you see people drinking Bud light and you ask them if they are blind and ignorant?
Light beer is a crime.
(I'd agree though that some american beer are decent, like Sam Adams.)

You're out of date. The micro-brewery thing has exploded, and the choice of beers in the U.S. is now immense. There are still a lot of people drinking Bud, but that's not the beginning nor the end of the spectrum of U.S. beer.

Exactly. Allagash is one of the best beers I've had and it's brewed in Maine. Great Belgian style stuff. I'll drink pretty much any quality beer though. I don't drink Guinness though, I'm not sure if I haven't been exposed to it enough but I've never been a big fan of it.

I have to say I can't see why anyone could knock Belgian beer though. Seriously the stuff is better than 90% of anything on the market, and Belgians don't just make strong Trappist beers either.

Belgian beer is the best, but it's expensive over here compared to domestic brands. I usually drink either Grolsch or Hertog Jan, wich are the only Dutch brands I really like.

I like it for parties because it's water and it comes in handy to be able to drink large amounts.

My favorite beer is probably Leinenkugel's Honey Weiss. I think it's a midwestern US only beer, but I might be wrong... regardless, I love it. It's great for relaxing after a run.

Alright, here I have to agree Shiner is DECENT.

My favorite is without a doubt the German/Belgian Beers (Paulaner, Becks, etc.).

I'm really not a fan of any American beer, but I do sympathize with the types you name because of the cost...and I know you're not always drinking for the taste
