Thread: Crossing the T

    Default Crossing the T

Iv'e tried this on a number of occasions but my ships just turn to face broadside. I wonder if this is possible in this game. I'm sure most of you know this manoeuvre. But essentially you hit the opposition at 90%, this means that although your lead ship takes a pounding, once you go through the opposition you can bring ALL your guns to bear and the enemy will struggle to do the same.

Are you using the alt+right click command. It tells all the ships you have selected to focus fire on the enemy ship you click on with out actually diverting them from the course you've plotted.

Basically you want to group your ships as they will follow the lead ship's route instead of taking their own route. Then plot a course that crosses the T then alt+right click on the lead ship in the enemies column. That way all your ships will pass in front of the column while focusing their fire on the lead ship.

Word of warning though, if you don't cross far enough in front of the enemy lead ship it might reach your line and then be disabled, thus blocking your ships at the back of your column.

I have done it repeatedly with the demo…In line ahead formation, just keep moving and then double the line. I would rather do a turn about but that maneuver I can not find in the demo and have not bothered to do manually as doubling the line usually does enough damage to win the battle…

Let the ships fire as they bare and don’t bother with selecting each broadside.

Mick, make sure you group your ships (ctrl+1(or whatever number you want to assign to them)). Then just drive them around with fire at will on (don't click to attack individual ships).

Then you can move them as a formation to perform that move. Unfortunately raking fire into the bow doesn't do the extra damage it ought to and half the shot seems to miss altogether. In the demo I found maintaining the line formation, keeping the weather gauge and establishing a figure eight pattern is devastating to the French fleet. They can be killed without loss every time.
