Ok so I knew you could name your ships but then I found this thread, which I very much liked because, now I can name a unit “the fighting b******s” what will you name yours, there has to be the obligatory “the (your town) guards" but what else.

Make Beer Not War
Cool feature. Some names I may use playing as Britain, depending on where the unit is raised in some cases:
"The Death Brigade"
"Cumberland's Butchers" (for fighting Scottish Jacobites)
"Edinburgh Loyal" (for fighting Scottish Jacobites)
"The Boyne Brigade" (for fighting Irish Jacobites)
"Rhyfelwyr's Life Guard"
"The Spam Squad"
At the end of the day politics is just trash compared to the Gospel.
I'll go Colbert style and name everything The Fightin' Line Infantry! The Fightin' Dragoons!
I'll name them rather mundane things at first. 1st Hannover foot, 2nd Vienna dragoons, ect. As units grow in experience and distinguish themselves in my army, elevating them above the rank and file they'll be given special names.
I'll rename them based on battlefield performance. Say I have an infantry unit that holds the center of my line in a particularly bloody battle, and doesn't route despite all the losses my forces take. I might rename them the "immovable brigade" or something.
It depends on the faction I'm playing but one of my units will be the "Royal Black Watch" and "Stirlings Fusiliers".
^ The Fusilli Jerrys
According to whims of their grand Prussian kaiser, of course!
My plan is to distract the enemy at first, the they run as my "56th Grannies" open fire...

Or take Eddie Izzard's idea and form a First Batallion Transvestite Brigade.
I'm taking Monk's approach as well, just name them from where they came from, for example 1st Paris dragoons or 3rd New Jersey regiment. And if a unit or general does particuarly well, I'll rename it to (generals name) hussars, etc.
Wait, I don't know if this has been answered yet, but are monarchs and presidents controllable? And what do they do? How do they differe from generals?

Generals are recruitable iirc. Jack also posted somewhere, i forget if it was TWC or here, that generals can be promoted from normal units. No idea if that is still in.
I don't think your Monarch/ministers are controllable anymore. They serve as your in-game figure-head and give you bonuses or negatives to things like trade, tax, public order, military strength ect.

Name them for people that will strike fear into the enemy!
