    Red face Cancel Steam Order

For those who are mad with Steam not having a pre-load as was promised, I was told by my credit card company to call 1-425-889-9642 but Valve only has voicemail. Anyone else who has to tried to cancel might want to leave a message there.

Why does such a large company not have live support? Maybe because they have 0 respect for their cus

I found this, for what it's worth:

    Step 1

Create a Steam support account here. You will need to register a new account even if you already have a Steam account.

    Step 2
Ask a question here. Be sure to select "Billing" as your category. If you purchased with your credit card, you will need to provide the following information:

    * The last four digits of your credit card number.
    * The expiration date of your credit card.
    * The name on your credit card.

    Step 3

In the "Your Question" box, state that you wish for them to cancel your pre-order and explain why. Also, if you live in the EU, UK, or the US, you may be entitled to a cancellation by law - see here. If you qualify under your applicable law, be sure to point this out in your letter.

    Step 4

The email will not be sent when you hit the submit button. Rather, you will be asked to confirm your submission. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the applicable link.

    Step 5

Go get yourself a boxed copy.

Of course, I don't see how getting a boxed copy saves you heartache. That has to get validated through Steam as well ...

I recommend some perspective. Breathe in, hold for a tencount, breathe out, smile.

So you can start downloading a little later. Worse things have happened in life.

I'm really disgusted at CA for what they've done. The live Q and A guy said that CA went with Steam for a bunch of reasons, all of which made me laugh if i'm quite honest. CA have done this for no other reason than the big fat wad of cash Steam have given them. Shame on you, CA.

And that pathetic achievement system is nothing less than an insult... Unforgivable. This makes SecuRom look good.

As I've said elsewhere, if you install SecuRom or StarForce, you're stuck with them, unless you're ready to do some serious registry hacking, you're never getting rid of them. Exit out of Steam, on the other hand, and it's off. Uninstall it and it's gone.

So yeah, I see some difference.

Does anybody really think Steam will stop illegal downloading and playing of this game? The more work developers put into making a game crack-proof, the harder people work to crack it. I give it a week before a playable torrent of this game is circulating the web.

Which leads us down the same road SecuRom led us down. The only people this copyright protection crap punishes are people who buy the game legitimately, while those who download it illegally get to play hassle free and without having to have Steam even installed on their computer... lol.

Having no copyright protection at all wouldn't affect their sales. some people would still buy it, most would download it. That's exactly what's going to happen with this, and the only people left with a problem are those who bought the game legally and are forced to use Steam.

Well, if you plan to do any multiplayer at all, a warezd copy is going to leave you high and dry. Also, whereas SecurRom and StarForce exist purely to slow down piracy (a job they notably fail at), Steam allows us to have groups (such as the one stickied in this forum), friends, in-game chat, etc. At least Steam brings something to the table besides a destruction of the second-hand game market.

Ah, our old friend DRM discussion.

Please, if you wish to discuss DRM issues then do so over at the Backroom. This topic is too hot and too divisive for this humble little corner of the Org.

If you want to rant about Steam, do so over at the Steam forums please.

For now I'll close this thread. It seems to have served it's purpose anyway.
