There, but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford

My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.

I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.

"Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" - The Platters

"Wooly Bully" - Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs. The best version is blocked off in Youtube.

"One Way Ticket To The Blues" - Neil Sedaka

"A Big Hunk O' Love" - Elvis Presley

"Swanee River Rock" - Ray Charles. Good cover.

Maybe not classic, my favorites from that period are the "novelty" songs:
    The Purple People Eater
    Witch Doctor
    Yakety Yak
    The Battle of New Orleans
(How Much Is) That Doggie in the Window?
    and similar ilk.

Not from the 50's, but the best of the bunch has to be Spike Jones' Der Fuehrer's Face. That one is classic.

Peggy Lee—Fever (this recording is from the '60s, but the song was a hit in the '50s)
