It's possible that the different versions can't see each other due to some activation error, or needing to be unlocked. Though if that's the case how could you even install if your version wasn't ready to be activated yet? I guess when tomorrow comes we'll know the answer

It's mainly the North American version that isn't unlocked until the 4th (something about authentication servers). Plenty of people are playing, as evident by the MP group. Gah.
